OC'ing with a hiper PSU

hipers have got some bad comments lately, i wouldnt like taking out a £300 component when i could have spend 60/70 on a decent psu

musx64 your sig is too big, 4 lines max

just because a few hipers have gone puff, doesnt mean urs will. I have a 580W one and currently running a conroe system at 3.5Gz, 2Gb RAM, 3 hard drives an 8800GTX (ocd) etc. etc. No probs! As like a lot of others.

Why spend 70-80 more when you dont have too????? and you have very little chance of damaging the graphics card even if it did happen to blow.

its more than a few. its a LOT and a lot on these forums alone. enough for people to recommend other psus.

oh i dunno. how about.....getting a psu that actually produces what it says on the box, ultra quiet running, ultra stable rails, piece of mind.....oh and a 5 years warranty. the tagens arent really doing any of those things.

I had a hiper 580w type R and went with an enermax liberty 620w for 'safety' and reassurance when overclocking my old opty 170 (the hiper was fine btw and coped easily). Sadly the enermax popped within 2 months taking my whole rig with it - seems trust is a hard thing to come by these days. With hindsight I wish I had stayed with the hiper. Just because a few people report it as being faulty and give horror stories about it dosn't make every one of them dodgy, you could be like me and buy a reputable brand and have that die on you instead!

I'm running 2 rigs with Hiper 580's. The one in my sig replaced an Antec 550 that went bang on me some time ago. As you can see, clocking is not an issue. Very stable rails, in fact they don't move at all even running dual Prime. My other rig is a DFI LanpartyB NF2 running at 250x10, and has been for ages. As has been said, all psu makes have some that go bang. It dos'nt mean all that make of psu are rubbish(unless of course it's a Qtec).

same here...My Enermax Noisetaker 535W PSU went pop within 6 months of buying. Used a Levicom 550W for 2 years without issues....and so far my Hiper 580W has been perfect with an overclcoked conroe and 8800GTX system. Enermax...supposed to be the best....hmmmmmm. I dunno?? I think its ll down to luck also.

so basicly i should wait untill i get a 620w corsair or something before attempting to overclock?

erm...nope. I'd overclock that system straight away!

The power from that PSU is more than enough to handle a bit of overclocking..I think what the arguement is about is the Reliabilty of the PSU's.
