OCR from a .JPG?

Does anyone hav a recommendation for free or cheap(ish) OCR software to scan a document and convert the text?

I used something many years ago with a scanner but the scanner and the software have long since gone

I remember doing it from a free OCR app on my apple ios phone last year. It had few ads in it and that's how it was free. It worked great but can't remember the name of the app.

I have found something that seems to meet my needs - FreeOCR - http://www.paperfile.net/
As it happens, I scanned the documents into a .PDF and that works pretty well.
I took the "read" plain text and copied it into LibreOffice Writer.
That allowed me to correct any faulty conversions which were typically highlighted by the spellchecker.
Good result all round

Good news. There's always free options to anything you want in the world app wise. Always alternatives.
