Hey guys,

What's the deal with ocr software these day? I remember installing some stuff that came free with my first ever scanner (umax iirc) and it was bloody awful :p

I've been asked by a senior lecturer friend of mine about scanning about 50 pages of clear text from his schemes of work which he would like to put on to disk for future manipulation etc.

Any ideas or suggestions? 'Free' would be nice, but I'm not paying, so whatever really ;) We'll be using an epson all-in-one of some description: rx420/dx6000.

Not that I use 2007, but I remember hearing a while back that office now has an ocr utility? Is that any good?

Cheers,

SW.

Paid for: OmniPage (Pro) or Abbyy FineReader - have used both, preferred FineReader....

Free: SimpleOCR is the only freeware OCR software that I know off, have never used it, so can't comment on it, however, if you want a real professional job done, I would recommend buy something....

If anybody knows of other freeware OCR software, could you please post a link to it.....

Thanks.

I use FineReader and it's excellent. But yeah, it's not free unfortunatley.

You can get a trial but I think you can only save 1 page at a time.

Could be a PITA when you want 50 pages doing :p
