OC's best pre built option

Hi All,

I'm looking at a pre built option from here and need a bit of help with the best setup for price. I need it pretty much only for photoshop, general use.

My budget is around what you see in the images, but if I can save a bit that would be perfect.

I have been looking at:

Thanks!

Welcome :)

What's your max budget? Someone can spec you and I believe if you post a basket into customer services, they will quote you for building the system. I think it's generally £60, and it seems you have a £900 budget so £840 for the components + £60 build service?

Will you be gaming also or only photo editing? Any video editing at all?

This is assuming it's only photo editing & general use (browsing etc)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-SLI - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle **£14 Saving** £264.58
1 x Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX16C9T3K2/16X) £129.95
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 750Ti OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (N750Ti-2GD5/OCV1) £107.99
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £79.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £77.99
1 x BitFenix Ronin Tower Case - Black £69.95
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £61.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £59.99
1 x Raijintek Themis Black Heatpipe CPU Cooler PWM - 120mm £19.99
Total : £872.41 (includes shipping : ).

i5k CPU which you can overclock and photoshop is single threaded, so Intel is preferable over AMD
750Ti GPU which you should be able to use with CUDA acceleration in photoshop and anything more powerful than this is pretty much a waste in terms of power use
16GB RAM (what size images will be being edited? - if they are quite small, 8GB should be more than enough, but 16GB would be useful for large images)
Decent size 256GB MX100 SSD to be used as a scratch disk
2TB HDD for storage, great PSU etc
Themis height is 157mm, case clearance is 167 so should fit, likewise with GPU

Bit over budget, but the case can be sacrificed and you'll still get the same performance

YOUR BASKET
1 x Raijintek Agos Midi Tower - Black £39.95
Total : £39.95 (includes shipping : ).

160mm clearance in this case, so will still fit

this would run rings about your proposed build (bigger ssd, waaaay better gpu, IPS screen for better colour reproduction)
you can ask ocuk to build it for you in the customer services section of the forum.
as shivy said, should cost £60 and they'll install the os and drivers for you foc too
i assume you still qualify for free shipping with code SFCASE if you ask ocuk to build it for you, but you better check

Might I ask where you find the b-grade GPU's like that? :o Can't find them unless I'm failing? lol

Also, the 780 GPU will be wasted for just photo editing, anything above a 750Ti/760 is kind of a waste, won't benefit much?

Hi guys! Thanks for taking the time to help me : )

This is great, and exactly why I asked on here before deciding.

The budget has to stay around £850 (maybe +/- £20), I've been given this by my boss, so need to keep it in that. The other bits in my basket were an SSD for him and a new monitor for our coder.

I won't need an extra HDD as we have a server for files, and I will also use the HDD from my current PC as the secondary.

I do only graphic work, web design etc and work with files sometimes over 1.5gb.

Is there a blu-ray/DVD burner that could fit in the budget without the secondary HDD?

Thanks

£850 including build service? The build I specced most recently with the agos case will come to £836 with the free shipping + £60 will come to £896. Is that too much?

Edit: Oh yeah, -£60 for the HDD and +£15 for the optical drive? So gives £851 with no HDD and an optical drive which is bang on
