I'm having a nightmare with this bloody thing. My home charger has been disconnected from the internet to turn it from smart to dumb.
The Octopus app has been linked with Tesla and done a successful test charge to enable the tariff.

The first night it worked great :D
Next time I only got half a charge with an error saying "Octopus failed to control device"
Last night (third time), no charge at all with "Octopus failed to control device" again

My question is, if I disable the smart control in the octopus app, and set the Tesla to only start charging at 12:30 will I still get the 7.5p rate? I'm not bothered about having the 7.5p rate outside the off-peak window, so long as I can get the 7.5p between 12:30-05:30 I'll be happy.

Yes you will still get the rate from 23:30 until 05:30 regardless of charging or not.

If you've disconnected it from the internet, how do you expect Octopus to be able to control when it charges?

I've got an Ohme and Intelligent Go has always worked flawlessly. I tell it how much charge I need and when I need to depart and they work out the optimal charging schedule.

Because they are using the API connectivity for Intelligent with the Tesla, not with the wall box.

I have never let it schedule my charge. I tell the Tesla to complete it's charge by 5:30 AM, this way if there is an interruption in charging (small power cut etc) it will resume. A very rare event tbh. Also it possibly leaves some residual heat in the battery to make driving in the morning more efficient.

if they don't have intelligent control of the car , to turn on/off the charging, when the market price is low,
they could reasonably say you have to use the non intelligent go /9p with narrower 00:30-04:30 ?

Yes, it will still work - this is exactly what I've done withy my Niro on IO, as the Kia integration is... "flakey" to put it mildly :p

Sky hubs have had a recent firmware upgrade that caused the Tesla charger to disconnect form the internet, other devices as well. Sky are busy rolling back the firmware to an earlier version.

I’ve not had any issues with IO and my tesla, I just leave it to do it’s thing.

My charger is just set to plug and charge and is effectively in dumb mode.

However, you only have to ‘smart charge’ via IO once per month to stay within the T&C’s so you can just schedule charge the rest of the time.

Tesla allegedly adjusted its API slightly in the last update but Octopus fixed IO on their end within 24 hours, I didn’t notice and issues and in any case that is unlikely to be the issue and it could well be a connectivity issue at your end.
