It's just the cooler, aslong as they're the same model you can crossfire them i.e. 2x6850s. What motherboard do you have?
i have an asus m4a785td-v evo which supports crossfire & im also aware that the second slot only runs at 4x speed but ive had a look into it and its not much of a performance loss, ill still get a boost 
plus ill probably end up upgrading to a new mobo in time

Do you still have the M4A785TD-V EVO which does CrossFire at x16/x4?
If you do I'll refer you back to this thread which explains why you may not get the full benefit of CrossFire in some games.

Yes
as i posted above im aware but in most cases ive read its only a 5/10% performance decrease with 4x, and eventually ill end up getting a board that supports two slots at 16x
