Hi, i was going to buy a cpu/mem/mobo bundle upgrade the otherday but found they have vanished from the OcUK website, does anyone know whats happend & if they will be back?

sorry if this is the wrong section, im new here. :D

i dont buy them so much for the savings but mainly for piece of mind that they will all work together.
im always nervous to buy seperate cpu/mem/mobo incase they arent compatible with each other, im abit of a hardware noob. :(

if your are not sure about what to get, simply give us (forum members) a budget and the purpose the machine is for and we'll give you some ideas on what to get, or maybe call/webnote/use the customer support forums OCUK provides to ask shop staff on what to buy

If you are ever unsure, just ask around here. There's always somebody about that knows their stuff and will help! :)

Ok great, this is what i am currently running

Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Hiper 580W SLI Modular PSU.

Also i just bought a BFG GTX 260 OCX MAXCORE 896MB PCI-E which i have a slight problem with, basically it doesnt fit onto my motherboard properly, when i try to plug it in it hits a resister or component on the motherboard which stops it pluging all the way into the pcie slot.

My current set up is pretty good & i have no major problems but i would like alittle more Oomph for more recent games, Games is what the computer will be mainly used for.
I was thinking about a Quad core, maybe an Intel Q9550 2.8ghz, but im no expert & am not sure how much more powerful it would be than what im currently running.

So anyway i was willing to go upto maybe £400-£450, maybe alittle more if its worth it.

Any help & advice you can throw my way would really be appreciated. :)

for both builds i picked the OEM cpu as that allow you to add a much better cooler then the stock one without going overbudget, however this means you get 1 year warranty as opposed to 3 years if you got a retail chip

others may put up e8x00 based pcs as they will argue that games wont benifit from a quad, but since you wanted a q9550 in your pc, i put that into the spec

im also assuming your case is big enough for the coolers i have suggested

add case

if you don't need a case, you could get a quad,
argument between, i7 system or core2 quad/duo system should ensue along with what is better for gaming in the long term (life of your pc), faster CPU (dual core) or more cores as games are slowly becoming more multi threaded (quad core/i7)

the 4870 1GB is a nice alternative graphics card if you don't like nvidia

thanks for the advice jak731, plenty there for me to think about.

lol i had no idea about the Hiper psu's being explosive, ive had mine for a couple of years & its been really good.

also you mention a "Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU", is this enough to run a quad core & a gtx 260?
