why didnt you go with the i5 7640x if you wanted a socket cover that boots?
Doesn't work in the Rampage VI Extreme, plus I can use the extra cores at the moment.

you probably could get 4.6ghz too with just over 1.3vThought I give OCing my 4770k another go. Always had issues getting above 4,3 and blamed it on the lottery. Well jokes on me cause 15 minutes with the haswell OC guide over on overclockers.net and behold 4,5ghz.
I think i'll have to delid before i will attempt anything over 1.28 cause the temp spike is huuge. 1,3v will put me near 88 degrees on my AIO with noctua SP fans at max RPM.. Have a feeling the thermal paste job by intel is shoddy.. what a shock haha.you probably could get 4.6ghz too with just over 1.3v
Yeah get some liquid metal on it but make sure you paint the VRM bits before you do that.I think i'll have to delid before i will attempt anything over 1.28 cause the temp spike is huuge. 1,3v will put me near 88 degrees on my AIO with noctua SP fans at max RPM.. Still stock Haswell i7 level's of performance for the multithreading.. which is good imho and yeah singlethread is a good bit ahead. Wonder how it holds up in games .. poke poke..
But but but Jumper, Linus from LTT says that delidding isnt worth it and will only yield a few lower degrees /j. Sorry i couldn't help myself.Yeah get some liquid metal on it but make sure you paint the VRM bits before you do that.

My own experience yesterday with my 8700k at 5ghz dropped by a massive amount after a delid. Gone from 95c into thermal throttling down to 65-70c. Still using toothpaste.
Whats your Cinebench at 5.1GHz Gavin?
Don't know if you've already mentioned it but what are you using to cool that i3? almost 5,6 is impressive.lol
i apologise for the appalling ram timing and speed. the z270 gaming 9 really isnt upto the task of decent ram oc.
