I bought a CPU from OCUK and it came in a small brown box, not much bigger than the CPU. Was dissapointed, was expecting the larger boxes shown when purchased. Is this common? and why? As it turned out the cpu had a fingerprint on it and was a terrible overclocker despite multiple cooling attempts, just bad luck? or perhaps they test the quality of CPUs and keep the best overclockers for VIPs?

Personally I'd take it up with their Customer Service team:

Sales - UK 0870 443 0880
Sales - International +44 870 443 0880
Support - UK 0871 222 8528
Support - International +44 871 222 8528

If there is an issue it shouldn't really be discussed here.

Sounds like you bought an OEM chip (Original Equipment Manufacturer) which is basically just a cpu without a warrenty or heatsink/fan

The full retail chips come in packaging you require

the thin clear cpu package inside the brown box should have been sealed, but its definitely just bad luck Im afraid - quite often the OEM's can actually clock better than Retail cpu's ( just in my experience , but have read of others on here stating the same)

That packaging is fine, I have sat on CPUs in the brown foam boxes before and I am not a twig. ;)

The packaging is the standard you get for OEM CPUs, I personally think it is up to more than the retail boxes due to there being less chance of the pins being damaged.

If you have issue with the packaging you need to contact the shop though as previously stated.

Only retail chips come in the big boxes.
