OcUK Current Steppings for Opteron 170 & 148, Any Good?

Fancied having a play with a single & Dual core Opteron. Just ordered a 170 and 148 from OcUK and just wondered what the current steppings are like?

Currently running an X2 4400 at [email protected] volts under water. Will I get much better with the 170?

How are these clocking? I'm particularly interested in the Opty 170tbh.

I've ordered another one from OcUK and I hope I get the same stepping as you tbh.

Even if they are good clockers are you really going to notice another 200 mhz, which will probably be the max you will get ?

You are already at 2.8ghz ? Not having a go cos im in same boat, but im saving my pennies for the Conroe which looks like its going to whipe the floor with AMD in July.

I see your point Rex. I did spend a few monents thinking about it, but tbh (and not meaning to be rude or big-headded), I just like the idea of 3ghz and I dont want to "pop the lid" on my current opty.

As for when Conroe comes out, i'll probably swap to that too. And the reason why? If I want some thing, all I gotta do is sell more and the next month I can get it... :D

So there we go. I'll tell ya if it was really worth it soon enough.

P.S. I reckon I could sell my current opty for about £300 and there for its only about £30 for an additional 200mhz. I've paid more than that before. ;)
 
After a quick play last night.

148 - 2.9 Seemed a quick Prime stable at 1.40 volts and Oblivion Stable for 3 Hours. Will load into Windows at 3.1 at 1.50 volts.

170 - See Sig. Totally Prime Stable on both cores @ 1.60 Volts. Wouldn't go more than 282 HTT before prime failed on core 0. Was hoping for less volts and more. Isn't much better than my X2 4400.

What suprised me though is how much better Oblivion is to play on a dual core. So much smoother, no pauses. Seemed almost like twice the frame rate.

Impressed with the 148 not so much with the 170 but then it took me 10x X2 4400 to find my current so I suppose it isn't that bad but was hoping for 3Ghz.

Note all under water. See Sig.

Interesting. I'll give it a shot and if it doesn't work too well i'll just sell it. But its gotta arrive yet and the web site is saying its 1 - 3 days and I haven't recieved a posting confirmation E-mail thing just yet...

What was your Max and at what voltage ? Notice your sig is 2.8 @ 1.4. Would have been nice if mine could have done that.

Max was 2.8ghz at 1.4v. It didn't like doing 2.9ghz 'cos it was illergic to the voltage and I'm having problems keeping it cool. Was thinking about taking the IHS off but that didn't excite me much.

Blimey the later 170's need loads more volts then going by that :eek:

Glad I managed to pick up my 0550 UPMW last week :D

Anyone else got a CCBWE 0609FPAW 170 Opteron, how well are they clocking?

Mine just came in the post today, wont be able to use it till I order the rest of my stuff though. :(

That's the same as mine; got it a couple of weeks ago. TBH it's been slightly disappointing that I can't get it to run above 2.5GHz with any stability. I am only using the stock HSF though so maybe that's why.
 
I can't get mine stable above 2.75 ghz on water very dissapointed think majority of CCBWE won't get you above 2.8 always go for CCB1E or the new CCBBE. :)
