OcUK Dadsnet thread

Well glad I've found this thread!

Were due in late September with our first - we had 4 miscarriages up until this point all before 10 weeks - we are now at 28 weeks so much much reduced risk and hopefully all behind us.

Mrs is injecting clexane on a daily basis (heterozygous leiden factor v) which Tommy's @ COventry hospital (awesome support for recurring miscarriage btw) think might be the cause.

My duties up until now have been decorating the nursery and finishing off the house before the little one arrives - big living room project to finish in the next few weeks so hoping well - trying to keep the stress levels down at home but she really doesnt like mess!!

We were looking at the isafe pram system on amazon however reviews seem mixed and the demonstration videos arent the best - anybody got it and rate it or should we keep looking at mamas and papas and mothercare brands?

Needs to be lightweight and have a big basket at the bottom - everything else is optional!

We bought a Mamas & Papas Ocarro and have been very happy with it. It's not the most lightweight out there, but it's also not that heavy and the basket is a really good size. One thing I found with a lot of buggies was the frames had a lot of flex in them; you couldn't jiggle them side to side to settle your tired baby without it feeling like the buggy is going to fall apart; the Ocarro is really solid and has no flex at all.

Congrats! We're at 26 weeks.

We've ordered Venicci system from a local family run place too (in Burnley). They had almost all brands on show and the Venicci frame was the best, felt sturdy and solid and it came with everything we needed. We're outdoors people and although we won't be doing mountains with a pram, we wanted something with some give in it (suspension of sorts) and larger air filled tyres. It's not as long as most frames also, so folds up neatly. Weight is about the same for most systems I found. It suited the fashion and the practicality side of things. The specific "rugged" brands were either single use (rather than a system) and/or flimsy looking for the same if not more money.

Are you also pimping that thing out with some alloys and a pair of subwoofers? :D:cool::p;), sound like you have spec'd it to your tastes and not what the baby needs?

Baby won't know the difference, all they need at that age is love, attention and a bond with yourself.

Congrats btw, it's an amazing time being a parent.

Haha, if only! No, it was specced for being mildly offroadable (hence the suspension and air filled tyres) therefore comfortable for baby whilst it's still fashionable for her. Most of our stuff has been second hand etc so this was a treat as such but we couldn't find anything else that fit the practical side anyway so an easy decision.

He won't be short of love and attention, he's her second, my first but as her first was 12 years ago it's going to be all new and fun for us both. Although not at the moment, the heat isn't doing her any favours.

Get 4 wheels. The 3 wheel stuff is more susceptible to falling over, especially if there is shopping on it (and yes you'll hang shopping from it even if you think you won't now, you will)

Don't fall for the new parent fears marketing tactic that new parents get hit with. Mamas and papas are expensive as ....

Get a pram that has a car chair that you can take on and off. With a proper pram attachment that you'll use later. Babies grow so quick that you'll be out of the car seat and into a proper pram in no time. Spend your money wisely, don't' fall for the predatory marketing tactics that they use on new parents fears. Babies are resilient and you all will be just fine.

I's suggest Oyster pram and buy the car seat to go with it. You can click and lift the car seat in and out of the car. When nipper is bigger, leave car seat in the car and just use the oyster pram module. You can also buy the stroller seat as well, it all fits using the same mounting on the pram chassis. https://leithpramcentre.co.uk/wp-co...oyster_cs_pts_silver_mist_black_chassis_e.jpg

Will last you until baby is 18-24 months.

(coming from a dad of twins and a daughter)

My little one just arrived. Born with a full head of hair lol.

Okay so any ideas please! For awhile now my son has been in good routine for sleep bed at 19:00 and up around half 6.

However it's got allot lighter in morning and he can now open doors etc himself, for past few weeks he gets up at 5am or half 5 runs into our room jumps on me and Mrs, we have tried constantly putting him back in bedroom, left his toys in there, but no matter what runs back in or just makes lots of noise or shouts.

I don't know what else to do doing that time of start every day with work just means me and Mrs constantly tired and by time works done and he is back to bed neither of us can be arsed with much :(
How old is he? Our eldest (almost 3) does this, and whilst I don't particularly enjoy being kicked/elbowed in the head, it shows that he loves us and wants to be with us. Enjoy it while it lasts :)

Thanks for the info subbytna - will take a look.

These tactics are so frustrating - I see right through them however the Mrs doesn't - falls for every single one, and feels price = quality (in some cases yes however not for prams!)

We went into Mama's and Papa's shop yesterday - We were back outside within 5 minutes of walking in. Everything price contained 4 digits by the time you add on the essentials (car seat, isofix base, carry cot etc), ridiculous!

Baby room furniture arrives today, we went with the Mamas and Papas Harrow in White in the end as it was all she liked, most of the stuff was really flimsy however this seemed solid and not too badly priced - http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7068832 Also a short trip to Ikea yesterday to get a Poang and footstool for when she needs to breast feed and sit in the baby's room (not for a fair few months yet but thought we would get it whilst we were nearby)

Is it the isafe full system, i.e pram, seat, Moses basket thing and isofix?

If so we have had that and it's lasted ours 9 months. Only stopped using it as my baby is a frickin giant (2 foot 6 at 9 monts).

It's alright, weight ain't that bad for what you get. My missus managed to get all of it in the back of a c1 when broken down. The Moses basket also turns into a buggy style seat which is pretty neat.

Only issue is that it's a tad bulky but I think all prams are and that the front wheels aren't as robust as they could be. Also it isn't designed for the pusher to be over 6' 2".

Ah see that’s where you’re going wrong! Don’t buy your pram directly from M&P, do as others have suggested and find a local pram centre. We bought the full bundle which was £1100 in M&P but only paid £700 from Bournemouth Baby Centre for the same kit.

You also get the benefit of trying a lot of the manufacturers all in one place..side-by-side comparisons in person are the way to go to find what you want :)

He is 2, be three in Feb. He has gone back to the whole 6/6:30 past week or so anyway :)
