OCUK Dead Pixel Policy

They wont - I asked today.

"We can not open or test monitors on site I am afraid. we get very few faulty panels."

I am lucky, live close by and can return at no cost to myself.

yep, but i believe their VP range covers dead sub pixels (red/green/blue) for the first 14 days too

Have (sub)pixel perfect monitors been known to sprout dead (sub)pixels after some hours of use?

it's not common. Dead pixels / sub pixels normally manifest themselves during the manufacturing stage. VS's 14 day policy on their VP series also covers possible damage during shipping etc. Unless you poke your screen a lot, you're unlikely to develop them over time.

Dunno about OcUK, but while my local independant retailer will let you open the box and look at a monitor before buying, they won't power it up.

I had an issue with a samsung 225bw i purchased from overclockers and they told me they only offer refunds on monitors, anything else would be down to the manufacturer to sort out.

If they offer you a full refund, including the original P&P then fair enough. Else it is their responsibility to fix the problem and liase with the manufacturer if needed.
