My gf just recieved a free money email

"less haste young one" , I hear you say however.. Read on.

This is from an old employer.

Basically.. Because of pension we paid you too little and your salary dipped below NMW.
Thus we owe you moneys (probably not much)

I've sense checked.

They are asking for confirmation she uses this email, and later bank, acc number, sort code.

The email does belong to the company.

As long as there's no way to spoof it I feel this is legit.

I suggested she ring the company just to be sure. But I still feel it's safe.

This.

Companies tend to **** themselves over potential NMW breaches as it can lead to huge fines so wouldn't be unusual for them to chase it with ex-employees.

I believe the key part is it was auto enrol.
And who knows if its 1 pound or 1 thousand pounds.

But yeah ringing (and not number in email) seems sensible

Definitely ring via an independently sourced number, it wouldn't be the most difficult bit of social engineering to find an ex employer and spoof an email address

And who knows if its 1 pound or 1 thousand pounds.

When we did an audit on it back in 16/17 when loads of companies were getting fined most people were getting about £60 just to make sure, most of them probably weren't underpaid but they weren't taking chances due to a similar company getting fined nearly £2m.
