Some of you may know that today I appointed a new Managing Director, Rupert Lowery, and I have now assumed the position of Company Chairman. Now that I have more free time I can focus on running and improving the forums, from a more relaxed perspective.

This thread is all about finding out what changes you'd like to see here. Would you like some of the forum rules relaxed? Do you want different rules? Would you like some new sub-forums? Do you want moderating decisions to be more transparent? Or any other change?

I would like to see some of my mates back here who have been banned over what seem to have been pretty minor squabbles that got out of hand.

Actually so would I. Things get said in the heat of the moment and it all goes pear-shaped. But, there is a problem. A number of those banned members decided to take matters much further and publically said (and in some cases still are saying) some pretty nasty stuff. I can't see a way round that one

I think the amnesty for banned members would be a good thing, although I can imagine some people will have burned their bridges.

I would suggest a one off, week long amnesty, where anyone who wanted to return could email you directly and ask for their account to be re-instated. It would be your choice to allow them back or not, so preventing anyone who had really overstepped the line from returning.

I can't see that happening. If you get banned for something considered fairly minor and then spend the next year or more being as hateful as you possibly can, then is that the type of person who would want to post here again? Put a few of these people together and it gets (and has got) totally out of control.

Lol.. this is what we were saying yesterday about needless posts, this would cause a lot more of them...

Spie? What ideas do you have so far then after reading what we have said?

OK, these are my thoughts right now.

1 - A special avatar or two for those with 5,000 and 10,000 posts.
2 - Bring back Underbosses.
3 - A few more Dons.
4 - More transparent moderating.
5 - Use built-in infraction facility.
6 - Actively encourage meets and maybe even contribute to beer bill/other costs.
7 - Increasing signature size to 25KB.
8 - Letting some users start polls (maybe 5K+ posters).
9 - Inviting certain banned members back who haven't burnt their bridges.

There are others but that was a quick 5 minute think.

Definitely some great points there. How many of these (or any changes) are you thinking of implementing?.

If the feedback is positive then all of them.

I'd like to be able to use more than five images per post. Five isn't many really when you take smilies into account.

Ten would be much more user friendly and sensible.

I agree. I've just increased it to 10

Seeing as the forums recently had a bit of a cosmetic update, I couldn't help notice the buttons stayed the same. The icons are fairly modern but the buttons are quite old fashioned and blocky in my opinion.

What about a subtle update to a slightly more modern style?

Did you make that? I quite like it.
