Looking at the GTX 970 for my next GPU upgrade from a HD7870. Firstly, any reason to get this over a cheaper version? I'm drawn towards the reference cooler, as it looks badass, but the price seems a lot more than the other versions. Is it really worth it?

Also, jumping from a HD7870 to a GTX 970 - is that a worthwhile upgrade for gaming at 1080p?

Backplate + as far as I know OCuk allows watercooling the cards (it does not void the warranty) - but make sure to ask them about it too.

I went from an oc'd 7850 to a 970 Strix and the jump in performance is just biblical. Oc'd to 1506mhz it generally breezes through games save for a few titles. You can also look into the 390 if you want to buy new.

If you want a 970, I'd go for a cheaper card. The less you pay, the higher the price/perf ratio. More expensive 970s are not always worth the money.

That Inno3d AirBoss is a good choice and has a great cooler. It's a monster but if you have a big case and don't mind your card being named "iChiilZ AirBawz Over 9000!!!!", then it might be worth looking into at that price;p

The cooler is great but can be noisy, so I would personally want something a little quieter. I had the MSI 970 Gaming and it was silent mostly.

Grab the Gigabyte one with that windforce cooler, they are known to be quiet and a good warranty/support.

Check what ever card you get fits inside your case (HDD mounts etc) and you have a suitable PSU, also if using an older motherboard you may need to update the boards BIOS.
