OcUK Karting Meet

just to echo the above comments, not sure how keen id be do to endurance racing... plus, who works out the teams, could be pretty harsh if say you get 3 people who weigh as much as a feather like myself with a fair amount of experience, up against some titans who've never karted before.....

And me who has reasonable experience in quicker karts, but weighs 20kg too much to make me quick enough :p

Will call the chap back tomorrow and enquire about GP structure and also, make sure the straight is open.

lol. You're more than welcome dude.

Am sure I should have a car by then.

eek! forgot you sold your motor! im sure one of us will have a new horseless cart by august though. I'm aiming for next monthish.

am i mad wanting to come all the way from scotland (arbroath, its around dundee area) to do some go-karting for what could be like 2-3 hrs? :o :p :D
it sounds well fun and tbh i would like the mini adventure of driving down or something :D

Depends on how badly you want to meet people I guess, it'll only be 35min karting each at the most mind, though the whole social thing should last a lot longer than that :p

Morning guys,

I have been reading the stuff I have been sent through.

It says they are able to offer "corporate" events, customised events basically.

I am not suggesting we arrange catering or anything like that, a good pub will suffice however, it says we can arrange a custom race format.

Ideas?

As I have discussed with you on MSN Chris, my preference would be for a Mini-GP style format, with free-practice, qualifying, and then a final. Varying prizes or trophies for final positions, fastest lap of the day, etc etc. The whole day would be something along these lines IMO:
  • Arrive at venue for pre-race talks (I assume the venue will do some kind of prep-talks; discussing etiquette, the format of the day, racing lines, general rules of the site, safety etc). Drivers would then be kitted out.

  • 2x 10 minutes of free-practice, depending on interest for the event, we will most likely have 20~ drivers, and so two sessions of 10 cars will be more than busy enough on-track.

  • 8x 10 Qualifying races, again split into groups of a max of 10-12 (so each racer gets 4 qualifying races). Race format with grid start (10 minute timelimit). Get as many laps as possible down within the time limit, most laps (or fastest to get that number of laps assuming more than one of the same result). Fastest time takes pole for next qualifying race.

  • 2x Finals. Your fastest/best time of any of the qualifying races will be put forward as your final qualifying position. This will determine 1) if you are in the A or B final, and 2) your position on the grid for your final. Again 10-minute time limit.
There will more than likely be a break at some point in the day, time enough to grab a drink/snack etc.

Of course, the above is only my idea of a GP style event, and is of course open for discussion, we have no idea as-yet if the venue will even entertain the idea.

I think keeping it simple would probably be the better way, custom corporate events will probably end up costing a hell of a lot more I reckon.

What I suggested above is similar to that of events I have been to in the past at varying karting circuits in the north. I'm actually very surprised they don't do something similar "off the shelf" so to speak.

if, due to the fact that we'll be renting out the entire place for all 30 of us whatever

they will allow us to do whatever we want

sounds good to me.

hehe tell me about it, it could be incredibly pants to be in a team of people there for a laugh if your a competitive freak.... like me :(

Karting however imo is probably one of the least controlled racing environments, so be prepared to come away with knocks n bruises peeps (road rash stylee)

Thats what I did last time I did 'corporate karting' Worked out fine, cost 20 quid a head

That's a very decent price then Conanius imo!

Done the thing paradigm mentioned a few times over in Warrington, cost around £40-£50 :)

This has not died!

I am still making enquiries about a venue which will cater for us in the best way, whilst remaining quite central to most members.

I am still going for an August date too, ok?
