We need to axe one. Let the unlucky ones go first. We all have the same % of leaving. I understand that we won't have any patterns, but if we get a mafia person, the other mafia person would want to defend him no?

If we get a non-mafia, maybe the people who are mafia might just jump on the name.

It just gives a start.

That may be useful as a last resort, if we're agreed to lynch on day 1 but can't agree on who - but I think we'd be better off pointing some fingers first.

There are no guarantees that the mafia will do as expected and defend each other or jump on anyone. We might be better off not defining our expectations before the actions - if we say "mafia will defend each other", mafia may decide to do the opposite in order to look like townies.

this wont really help, best thing to do is for people to make a decision on who they think is acting most like the mafia, and from there begin voting, gonna have a skim through and see if anyone stands out
 
Defo lynch on day 1. Madness not too as the Mafia get a free kill at night anyway. I'd rather take every chance we can get and as Shami said, voting patterns are useful indicators.

A random number gen is not.
 
If you are going to random number gen you may as well not lynch, as others have said as it will tell you nothing.

I'd be on the lynch side but discussion is stalling a bit.

Posting is a bit slow yes, but I think the content of the discussion is quite healthy for day 1.

I'm pro 1st day lynch - didn't want to give my opinion first to avoid asking a leading question.
All 7 people who responded so far have expressed pro lynch, and 5 people have reacted negatively to the RNG idea.

Possibly I may be one of the 2 not to offer an opinion (the time of this post may explain how busy I've been today!) a lynch is needed to create discussion and to allow future patterns to be looked at, a random lynch takes that away. It would just be a lynch based on a random number generator which will never be helpful.
 
Based on past games I have found that Mafia tend to float through the first round or two attempting to appear involved while still going relatively unnoticed.

Although Jaystation is a sensible vote based on inactivity, I'm going to put my vote elsewhere, only two posts, not much offered.

Really Malt? I thought all 8 people who responded have indicated they want a lynch - who were you counting as not "explicitly saying they are in favour of a lynch"?

Jaystation hasn't posted in nearly 3 days. Fortyseven hasn't posted much since the opener and has done the classic *complain discussion is slow while being the 2nd biggest lurker* trick. I'll support a train on either of these two unless they can join in properly before end of today, which is approaching fast.

Maybe iviv will replace with one of our reserves if not.
 
I think the problem is even if Jaystation isn't mafia, not participating is pretty much as bad. Providing no input means that even if we don't lynch him today he'll always be a topic of conversation because of the inactivity. Chasing after ghosts might harm the real hunt on future days. In the absence of any stand out targets and considering we've agreed we need a lynch I think an absentee is as good a target as any.

That is a very good point Shami. I'll see how things go with Forty, but will be happy to switch to Jaystation to secure a lynch.
