what brand is the OcUK memory?

It's not any guaranteed brand - it's OEM RAM. RAM branding is a bit of a marketing exercise as only Crucial (Micron) actually make their own RAM. I believe Corsair, OCZ and Patriot currently also use Micron memory chips. GeIL currently use a brand of chip called Elpida. At the moment the OcUK RAM is advertised with Elixir chips. Elixir is itself a brand name of a company called Nanya Technologies.

Names mean almost nothing in RAM. You may never have heard of TEAM RAM but systems running with their performance RAM products hold most of the speed world records for SuperPi, 3DMark etc. They use Micron chips.

OcUK have just started selling Cellshock. When I saw that I asked myself who are Cellshock? They're a PCB manufacturer from a small town in Germany who are buying in RAM chips and soldering them onto their own PCBs then slipping very sexy looking RAM sinks over them and charging a premium for it. Good for them, but they're not saying what RAM they are using, it could be Micron today and Elpida, Samsung or Nanya RAM tomorrow.

What you are typically buying with Branded RAM is a lifetime warranty. That doesn't mean it won't fail, it just means you can RMA it directly back to the manufacturer and they will send you some new stuff after the first year is up. If you need to keep your RAM for more than 12 months then that could be a deciding factor.

The OcUK Value RAM is guaranteed to run at 400MHz FSB (800 MHz PC6400) with timings of 5-5-5-15. If it doesn't do that for you, you can send it back to OcUK. The sticks I bought will do PC6400 and 4-4-4-12 or PC 5300 at 4-3-3-8 or PC8000 at 6-6-6-34!
