For a long time I've wanted to overclock my cpu, followed guides online, but always found it difficult. Myself and other friends are keens gamers, but without knowing someone first hand to show you the basics, it can be somewhat nerve wracking and complicated for someone who hasn't done it before. (me).

Anyone else think it would be a good idea for OcUK to offer an "Overclocking Workshop". It could a simple setup and 1 hour long, for you and some friends. With a bag of haribo at the end. :D

I don't know if other forums members/general public would find this useful, but I would certainly sign up.

Discuss/debate/provide opinions.

Interesting idea, The only issues I can think of are what chips would they show how to clock with as they vary.

It would have to be paid for by the people attending and I imagine ocuk would also need to produce some sort of document giving them protection if someone fries their chip

Plus, there's probably a pretty limited audience as they'd have to live within a reasonable distance from OcUK, not know how to overclock already and actually WANT to overclock.

the internet is a wealth of info, the key is understanding what each setting does and adjusting as you go,start with a low oc then gradually increase

the more you mess the more experience you build up,then it becomes second nature

plus theres always someone you can ask if you get stuck

I dont think what chips really matter as it would be just a basic session.. old 386's would do to get the jist.

nah, it needs to be something fairly recent so that the bios/uefi and settings are similar to the peoples setups at home

if i were organising it id use B-grade products as the demonstration stuff

Some SB/IB B-grade chips and some B-grade mid-range mobos

If enough wanted this maybe I could do something?

I would do somthing aong the lines of X79,Z87 and AM3+. Talk through basics and complex stuff with examples and then do some LN2 to finish to show whats ultimately possible.

All could benefit from some of this stuff from basic to advanced clockers. Not sure where we would do it though as not enough room at OCUK.

Yeah that is true. If enough want it I certainly dont mind doing something when I get back from Computex.

Looking forward to trying to crack some records with Team AU (Pro and Dino) on Sunday and a week of overclocking the latest kit.

+1-The internet is a wealth of info, couldn't agree more. A lot of simple question's get repeated time and time again in the forum. It would be just as quick or if not quicker to Google it.

Its always easier to be spoken to about complex new tasks rather than trying to read a guide. Have a search on YouTube & you'll find loads of videos that will be easier to follow than a worded guide...

Cant see turnout being very good for this sort of thing. I think what would be bettet would perhaps be a series of YouTube videos by 8 Pack on overclockers tv YouTube channel. I think there's plenty of basic guides available but for new architecture like Z87 it may be useful.

How about this as an idea...

You order a new machine or the core components from OCUK
and then you arrange to collect from the store on a day when an overclocking course is arranged i.e. when say 10-20 other people are also collecting and attending the course.

Then staff at OCUK help you assemble and overclock your new kit.

You leave the store with your new machine build and overclocked and with some knowledge and fun along the way.

Would that not be a great day out?

I can see this working for both overclocking and watercooling. I recall how scary doing my first water loop was and think I would have been much happier had someone been there to ask and check things over.
