Congratulations Raikiri!
Please forward the new theme to me by email. (hotmail address in trust)

Bri
Nice portrait. Good sharpness and depth of field.

A lovely summer portrait. Watch your composition though, a step closer and the path as a distraction would have been removed in the background.

A lovely portrait the only thing that distracts is the glimpse of path bottom right the brown tone really stands out.

Clown
Nice colours, but not a massively exciting scene. Needs some more impact.

Summer sunset's are good but for lots of impact there needs to be more detail in the clouds as this is your chosen focal point.

There is not enough going on in the silhouette to give an interesting city scape and I think the sun is till a little too high to get the right overall effect.

Eclectic
Really touching portrait. Great colour and DoF, but a tickle more contrast?

A charming portrait that would not be out of place in a catalogue. A great capture.

A super portrait, my only PP would be to boost the colours and contrast.

Ejizz
Very nice - great catching eyes! It's a bit weak on the theme, though.

Nice street portrait and there is lots of interaction here. Not much to indicate that it's British Summer though.

It’s a great shot but not a great pic for the theme.

Feriso
2 stars, ey? I agree, I'm afraid - there's nothing jumping out at me. Bit of a shame about the sky, but you can't have everything!

This is summer time in England, right down to the washed out overcast sky. Would have liked to see it as a landscape though.

A British summers day at the beach a wider composition would have worked better.

Gaffer
Great image that. Very catching.

Lots of colour and the reflections in the glasses are a great addition; no mistaking it's a summer portrait here.

A great summer portrait and the reflection makes the whole image work so well.

GSXRMovistar
Lovely shot. The processing brings out the kid nicely, but I'm not a fan of the colour it's turned the sky.

A very sweet summer portrait you have captured here. The PP seems a bit too strong for the subject though as you have lost detail in the yellow flowers.

It is another great portrait but the PP has really altered the tone in an eerie manner.

Ishamy
I think this could do with a re-think. The idea's there, but the focus is missed and we need a slightly more prominent subject.

A good idea and the flowers look lovely when backlit but there is too much of the over exposed sky currently. Work on the composition.

It has a nice concept behind it but the final outcome has not done it justice.

juno first
Very nice. Great contrast and lighting in the trees. There's no particular subject, though.

There is little variation in colour or texture overall so the scene becomes quite flat. Use of leading lines along the path would make this a stronger composition.

The colours and tones are great but the subject is lacking with the composition struggling to generate any interest.

Lucklessloser
I love the idea of the poppies in the field, but the oof bits in the foreground spoil it, as do the trees, I think.

Lovely image you have captured. Could do with some selective cloning out of stray grass but the colours and DOF work well together throughout.

The oof wheat in the foreground ruins the whole image it is difficult to read past those to be honest.

ManCuBus
My main thought is that the majority of the left hand side is pretty superfluous - there's not much going on there. I'd crop to the canal, personally.

You need a strong focal point on a panoramic image to make it work. Here the train seems quite soft and unfortunately blends in with the background quite a lot.

I am struggling to see the overall focal point for the panoramic, there are a lot of subjects colliding for centre stage and a lot of things lost to the blur of the backdrop.

Raikiri
Good leading lines and nice colours. Good link to the theme!

Although you lack a focal point the image does sit well with this months theme. Compositionally a diagonal fence line would have made a stronger image.

A great choice for the theme and the composition draws your eye into the image.

robertgilbert86
Nothing particularly grabbing me here. With the guy in the middle of taking his glasses off, it feels very much like a snapshot. You've lost the sky detail, as well.

Feels like a snapshot from a day out with friends. That's fine, but the composition and blown out sky don't make this anything more.

The blown sky and overall composition doesn’t really say much more than snapshot.

sbi5ar
Nice image, but the bird on the gate feels very much bolted onto the corner.

Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring. I like the image but don't feel there is much relevance to this month’s theme.

It’s a really interesting shot but its not really doing it for theme.

Sillyswede
Nice take on the theme. Good processing too - I like it, though others might not.

A wry take on the theme and your PP work well with the composition.

Interesting processing and a fun take on the theme it works well.

Slothmeister
Given that the people are really the subject here (the Goodwood sign only really providing context), it's odd that we can't see either of their faces!

Watch those highlights, as well.
As a photo at the racing track… where are the cars?

No cars and I we don’t see the person subjects properly I don’t think this is very strong on theme or composition.

The Abyss
Can’t say this really says 'Summer' to me. The black oof area along the top is also very over-powering.

Good work on the composition, unfortunately the focal point is a let down. Where are the summer blooms?

The flower is a bit pitiful for a main subject is it not?

Vanquish-storm
I feel the inclusion of the decking at the front is really stealing impact from the beach. For me there's likely to have been much more potential down on the beach.

The focus is the railing here but I'm sure you wanted the beach. Why not step forward or change the viewpoint to get some interest into the frame.

You should have stepped on the beach.

Vegetarian
Nice idea for the theme and well executed. Must have been good fun to make - I'm guessing you had someone drop it down into the shot rather than catching it mid-volley.

Good work capturing the ball mid flight but this alone won’t make a strong image. You background could be much improved location wise.

A really fun shot its got interest and a great composition.

Wahee
Quite a nice shot of the moon, as moon shots go. Can't say I can see the link to the theme, though.

A cracking capture of the full moon. Doesn't this happen every month of the year though?

Great shot of the moon but hardly British summer.

Wedge
Nice tongue-in-cheek take on the theme. Nicely shot and the processing matches the atmosphere.

Top image that pokes fun at the theme, carrying it of with style and aplomb.

A real British summer shot, great processing gives a true feel of a wet summers day.

Yes I used a fast shutter, manual focus and got someone else to drop the ball down. I wanted to do this a a tennis court but as I was moving house I had no time :(

Many thanks for the feedback. I'll admit, this was a lazy photo and I apologise for wasting your time really. I look forward to providing better pictures in the future!

They the only comments from my pic?

I know it wasnt great but i feel they are more geared to what i could have took a photo of rather than what i did take a photo of :(

thats the critique though. the judges have looked at your pictures and suggested ways you could have improved the shot and score more points.

Im not having a go at them its just i dont see what i can take from that.

Basically ive read it as take a photograph of something else

Im thankful for the time they have put in though and i knew i was never going to win. The winning photo is a good one.

what was your thinking behind that shot then. give yourself a critique and look through the other entries and see if you agree or disagree with the comments made.

A great summer portrait and the reflection makes the whole image work so well.

Yes, it was the reflection that was the inspiration for the picture. You can't see it in the low res picture but the glasses were reflecting the kite she was flying.

From this blog entry: http://www.tug.com/blog/2011/20110724_Malmesbury/

Chuffed to come second by one point.

Thankyou for your time and effort, judges.

'if' you had put in one of those kite shots mate, i think you might have won this round ;)

Well done, its a great photo.

Re-guarding my entry, thanks to the judges for comments, I do need to work on a lot of things yet, I still class myself as a very beginner (only have the cam 9 months) so roll on more competitions and ideas!

And I'm quite chuffed with the result for my first entry :)

Congrats Raikiri, when I first looked down the entries I knew as soon as I saw your pic it was a good one. Good impact!
Shows even a horizon line half way down & a focal point in the middle can still make a good shot :)

Reg my shot of trees, yeah I agree not much of a subject & im going have a mess in Lightroom to get the colours better then I think its more a pic that should be framed on a wall like a non-descript painting.
