I may give this one a go if I get the chance (have an idea in mind) but think this year I'm not going to have the time needed to ensue an entry every month (last year was hard enough).

Tell me about it!

It's just one wee photo.

Yet thinking it up, getting the composition then actually getting what you want! (Then any PP)...

A lack of entries due to a difficult theme?

My plan was to strap a camera to my head and cycle along with my handlebars in view, and plenty of motion blur. I've failed on that count, and now the snow has gone, failed on getting a better photo to replace my current one!

Got my entry in.

Can anyone tell me why the image is perfectly crisp and clear on my PC, yet not so once uploaded to flickr even when viewed full screen?

There's a a lot more graining on flickr, the colours are more blocky and the image as a whole isn't as smooth.

talk about cutting it close! I hope my post time is OK?

Wish I had more time at the beginning of the month to try this shot :( was my first time shooting a stroboscopic style photo. Didn't quite turn out as expected...but it's not TOO bad. Think I def needed more power on the flash and maybe even a faster frequency.

I think Flickr automatically adds some sharpening, which could explain the graining?

It does something that i'm not overly pleased about.

The woman's face behind the first jogger in my pic is nice and clear and easy to see on my Pc, yet you can barely make out her features in the Flickr picture :-(

Shame there has been little uptake, 7 entries this year compared to 14 last. As much as I'd like to attempt an entry every month this year it's just not going to be possible for the majority of them (24 months in a row was a massive task to be honest).

Anyone think the competition needs it's profile raised to get more involved? Maybe flagging it in some of the other sub forums? Or possibly some modification to the scoring process/entry amounts, say top 10 entries count towards the overall yearly score table? The fact that many haven't submitted anything for Jan may put them off for the rest of the year?

Anyway I really enjoyed the last two years and it was a great way to force me to use the camera and try and improve.

Too intimidating for beginners..
I like looking at the images as it is always a surprise to see how people interpret the theme. I can remember thinking last year about entering, the theme was something to do with liquid and I spent a day trying to get decent reflections from water drops above a pile of M&M's. I managed a shot that was acceptable from a beginners point of view and then saw the other entries and didn't bother.

For me, and this is only my viewpoint, I have enough to do trying to learn the basics of photography, let alone compete with all the experts at lightroom or photoshop. They have an advantage that will take a while for me to match, I have only just bought LR after 18 months, mostly to organise stuff, the learning PP will come gradually, for now Im concentrating on technique, and my lack of it not to mention getting to know my new K30 when it arrives next week :-)

I have an alternate view to this - I was a beginner (I got my camera kit for christmas, and had never used a DSLR before) and I feel that the comeptition helped me improve my photograph skills and push me well outside my comfort zone. The competition wasn't so much about winning to me, but hearing other peoples views (epecially the judges), and trying to apply the tips given to the next round. As the competition progressed, I grew in confidence and began to challenge some of the better photographs. I would encourage you to submit your photographs, regardless of how you think they compare to other peoples.
