Hello

Early next year Im tempted to get a PC to replace my series x, I primarily play MSFS 2020 and now 2024 (the latter is a bit of a state though currently) and the odd exclusive like Indiana Jones.

I have a fairly large tv cabinet which comfortably fits my ps5 and series x with a lot space to spare still.

I have no idea if replacing my series x for a pc is a wise decision or not, I want it be a simple straight swap if you like, hooking up to my 55" LG CX via hdmi. In a way my series x feels like a PC as I use a mouse and flight stick with it to play msfs.

Im looking at the prebuilt options on OCUK but not sure what spec I need to run MSFS, also it will be used upstairs and my only option is wifi, so it needs to have solid wifi connectivity. Never had issues with wifi upstairs, just unsure how a desktop will do over wifi.

Budget is around £1500 give or take, and want something that I can upgrade when time comes if need be, presume all have the option to upgrade RAM, GPU.

Can anyone spec a pre built please from OCUK.

Thank you

I know you want a prebuiild, but you'll be looking at around £300 more than building yourself. If you can follow lego instructions, you can build a pc...it looks daunting but as long as you're slow and steady, you'll be fine. Only saying as a prebuild is 20% of your budget going to someone else. You'll be playing at 4k, so that £300 is the difference from a 4070super to as 4080super....which are £100 more than 2 weeks ago anyway....I'm sure they're driving the price up so when they release the new cards in Jan, it'll be at parity or a slight increase, and they can go...look, almost the same price

so with new cards arriving, or at least being announced in Jan, it's not really worth looking now..when the new cards are released, the older ones should drop in price, making a pick now irrelevant

What I'd do is make sure you get your 16 or so posts (if you haven't done already) so you can access the MM.

So rest of the system...being MSFS, you'll want to aim for a AM5 x3d cpu ...this is why i suggest MM, and try and pick up a 7800X3D. flight sim loves the 3d v cache. I'd also pair it with a nvidia gpu, as dlss works very well on it and also Frame gen also works incredibly well, as the game isn't really fast paced, and is ideal for it

being 4k tv, if you can get your hands on a 2nd hand 4080s you'll be doing well..4070ti super with 16gb vram also not a bad shout...a 4070ti 12gb went recently for £500 which is a lot better than getting a standard 4070...sure they'll be a flurry of high end cards being sold when the new ones drop. (5090 and 5080 1st cards released..you may have to wait a couple months for lesser ones)

stick with 32gb 6000c30 ram...FS been tested with 64gb..makes no real difference and the £80 price difference stick on the gpu

white or black case..want so lights or descrete? Am on a 48" LGC4 with an o11d next to me and rgb fans..I quite like the light it gives, as rest of room is dark, so at least i can see my keyboard and mouse properly

Thanks, not In a rush anyway, I might consider this, but prebuilt just tempts me more, I have built a pc before and I remember something coming loose where I hadn’t secured it correctly, can’t remember what part as it was years ago.
What sort of prebuilt should I be looking at that meets most of what you mentioned, if ocuk do such one?

here is your best bang for buck
My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,299.95 (includes delivery: £0.00)
I saw that one, but wasn't sure how upgradable it was, can it be uodgraded in the future like GPU and RAM?

Also, not having had a desktop for so long, is all the airflow at the back of the tower?, so thats where some space is important? , it's going in a large tv cabinet and I would need to remove the back of the cabinet to allow more airflow, its only an Ikea one so its not hard to do.

I was trying to understand why you would use WiFi for gaming with all the Jitter/ping lag you would get vs using a cable!
Get the SN850X Instead and 2TB or even better still a 4TB for all your games.
Lad just bought his first PC....
Rapier with the following config, you could chuck an 9800X3D in there at a later stage for a 10% increase in performance, or as said wait till the new stuff to arrive.

I see, I game over wifi now and not had issues with xbox/ps5, wifi is my only option at present. Thanks for the basket, 2tb is plenty for me, was also thinking Ryzen 7800x3d. Using your basket I switched up a few things, not sure if I can get the price down with different brands. Would the below work If I decided to build my own.

Total: £1,893.88 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Oh much better price, that looks like it will be good for MSFS.

When I buy all these components does it give clear instructions on how to install and install in what order? I did build one before many moons ago and can’t remember where I got the instructions from.

I also might buy in stages and take my time, so not sure what order to order in.

9800x3d in there rather than a 7800x3d...paying that much might as well get the best. put a 4070ti super in there with the 4k gaming. the extra 4gb vram should help with 4k textures etc
the 9800x3d uses more power than the 7800x3d, and can draw 150w..if going that route I'd get the peerless assassin air cooler below..twin tower heat sink so excelllent cooling for air at price..the arctic 36freezer works very well too..going aio, I'd look at the thermalright aqua elete or frozen notte 360mm's for £50 or £69

That being said, after black fri week, prices have shot up...I would wait before pulling trigger on anything, esp gpu. 9800x3d is preorder so could order that..price seems to be going 1 way only at mo and don't think amd can keep up with demand, esp with intel launch failure
the asus 850W psu is good price though..10 yrs warranty and atx3.0 compliant..preorder again

This looks good, do I need to mess around with thermal paste with any of these builds, heard it’s pre applied now.

Next gen cards are out soon, what you could do is use the CPU IGP for a short while and use that for a month playing indie games then see what's out.

Next gen cards are you soon, decide AMD Versus Nvidia.

Im not worried about next gen cards but im waiting until new year anyway so prices may change on some parts. My main concern is if the build I made will work together, and unsure if the motherboard I added is worth the extra over the gigabyte b650 eagle that was linked by others.
The build is primarily for msfs 2024.

most new boards do now..you download the bios from website onto a clean usb stick..name it accordingling and then plug into the correct usb at back and press the bios flashback button...it'll install the new bios and when light goes off, should be good to go and install the cpu

so in tuf case above site you go to, and rename file the below, then the mobo will recognise it and install

TGB650PW.CAP

I'm in UAE, so go to uk site, but basically the same anyway

Yeah just watched a good video on it, looks very easy to do, the mobo I will go for is likely the Gigabyte b650 eagle linked somewhere above.

Anyone got any thoughts on the Antec c700 and C3? both similar price, looks like either will be fine based on all the components in this thread, just not sure which to go for?

Just to throw you a curve ball you can get the 7900xt for £600 which competes with the 4070ti

Oh nice, would that fit with all the parts I listed up this page, only things Ive since changed back to are the gigabyte b650 Eagle motherboard and the Asus TUF gaming 850w power supply, which I couldn't add to basket as they are preorder. Im thinking the prices may drop in the new year, so the 4070ti might be better to go for if its cheaper.

So below is my new basket what do you think?

Another refresh, lol. This is what i'm heading for, left the gpu out as I will see what the prices are in the new year, but Im looking at 4070ti. Im pretty sure all this works based on what's been said. Thanks everyone, sorry for the constant basket changes, its a minefield, and budgets always spiral!

Keyboard, mouse, monitor needed, mouse mat also. Plus for FS you'll need yoke, pedals, throttle.

Read up on different keyboard sizes, key switches and keycaps haha :D

Im using my lg cx, have a mouse and velocity one flight stick, just need a keyboard. :D

Im going for the laid back sofa approach, where no mouse mat is needed, actually I use cheap mouse with my xbox perfectly fine on any flat surface.

As I said this is replacing my xbox, so its going in a large tv cabinet compartment, I will open the back up and its open at the front, its very roomy, I think its called an IKEA Besta, but I got the version with the larger compartments.

With the ryzen 9800x3d and Phanteks XT pro ultra case in mind what motherboard should I go for?

Need something with good WiFi as that’s all I can use currently, don’t want to spend anymore than £200 on a motherboard though really.

Look at the difference between WiFi 6 v WiFi 6e

I can only get 5ghz via my pro 6 eero I believe until I eventually upgrade them, but I might as well go for a motherboard with 6e, it’s reading some reviews of some of the cards mentioned in here saying WiFi is not great, but I guess that could be other factors to that.

Would the Msi b650 mag tomahawk be a good choice for the phanteks xt pro ultra case?

I will post an updated basket next year before I buy anything.
