Hiya,

I'm sure this has been asked before but searching on here for 'overclocked' wasn't going to yield good results :)
Anyway, what's the score with the pre-overclocked CPUs available on the OcUK store? Intel's not gonna put stickers on the good ones saying which can pull what, as that wouldn't make them extra money!

So how does OcUK figure out which ones are good or not? Do they go through box after box of CPUs testing them? What happens to the ones that don't clock well? Do they go back into their retail boxes to be sold normally? Does this mean that if I buy a Q6600 from the store that's not pre-overclocked that it'll be a dud as someone's already deduced this? ;)

Ta guys

They aren't pre-overclocked, tested, binned or anything else. You're paying extra for a guarantee from OcUK that if the CPU doesn't hit what they say it will, they'll swap it for another that might.

Not worth it for me.

Hmm.. i was considering their overclocking package but after reading the above im having second thoughts. I must admit, ive never overclocked and never wanted to becuase i always thought it was risky (because i dont know enough), but having seen their package, thought it was a safe way to do it.

What would people recommend as an alternative for the same price? Guessing nothing will match the same performance at that same price though?

Its just a warranty that the chip will run at that speed, also comes with support to get the chip to that speed. :)

If you know what your doing just buy the basic chip and clock it up, if your new to overclocking and want a risk free introduction then that is what the OC chips are currenltly aimed towards. Get more people into the hobby without putting them off by having to bin a £150 CPU!

Ah right, cool. So do you just return it in the included envelope in exchange for a new one or something if it doesn't get to the rated clock speed?
Out of interest, how many do get returned that don't make the given clock speed? ;)
