Why don't we do our own survey instead of complaining about the What Car results.

I'll start

Car : Lotus Elise 111R (2004)
Time owned : 8 months
Problems : Blew fuse for horn, split coolant pipe

Car : Ford Mondeo 2.0LX (1998)
Time owned : 1 week
Problems : Blower doesn't work on settings 2 and 3, rear wiper only wipes the bumper, rear mirror fell off

Feel free to add yours (no cheating!)

Car: Seat Toledo 20VT Sport (53)
Time owned: 18 months
Bought it with 2k on the clock, now has 24 k.
Problems: Faulty MAF sensor, know problem - Replaced under warranty.

That's it. Considering I cane the ass off my car I'm very very impressed with it's reliability. My previous '01 Passat didn't come close although I did seriously abuse that car in the 9 months I owned it :p

Mazda MX5 bought 1997 run since feb

bumper interfaced with bridge (respray of bumper and de numberplating required)

new alloys+new tyres bought....

MOT Failed the sidelights didn't work- solution bulbs replaced!!!

5k covered

when bought refurbed front calipers, new discs + pads all round, oil change, air filter changed, coolant changed.

Reliability wise, rock solid. Practicality close to zero but the fact that fuel economy and insurance is acceptable makes up for it.

Purchase Price £2500
Service Costs £200
Body Spay Costs £250
Sundries £50
Tyres £160
Alloys £50 (cost £100 but got £50 for the old alloys)

Probably could do with an oil change again now £20?

1999 106 GTi

Time owned: 3ish years, done 70k+miles though

Problems: Lots - On my 3rd ABS pump as of today, new rear axle today, done rear trailing arms bearings, mid section exhaust, clutch x3 (due to faulty clutches), clutch cable, heater matrix (dash out, git of a job), had a continually leaky power steering pump, alarm box problems, random airbag lights (no major problem, its always the sensor cable under the seat), passenger side door has dropped twice now (gets used a lot), indicator stalk is slightly faulty and makes relay click (annoying!), used to randomly cut out but has improved over the 3 years and never does it now?, random suspension related clunks & knocks and probably others I cant remember.

It'll be back on the road on Monday, after being off for about 2 months :o financially a nightmare, its probably not worth the money ive spent on it but the girlfriend loves it and its good fun to drive. The problems ive had have never actually left me stranded or let me down while im away from home. Fortunatly the clutch cable snapped about 2 mins from home, unfortunatly it was a horrible job replacing it due to the invisible hole being behind the steering rack. Clutch being done 3 times was a bit of pain, due to a faulty batch of clutches.

Ive owned the Rover a month or two now, and bar not starting once due to having the bonnet open in the rain, its been pretty solid as a temp car, infact its not let me down at all.

edit: Rear calipers are knackered on the pug too (just replaced them today), replaced the rear ABS sensors today too, my pockets feel somewhat lighter now than they did at the start of the week. Im sure theres more, just cant remember what, ive got a thermostat ready to be put on as im sure mines knackered.

Parents Car : VW Passat Highline 2.0 (2005)
Time owned : 1 year
Problems: Failed to start one morning due to an electronics problem, had to get breakdown called out. The aircon fan ate a seal above the radiator resulting in a horrible grinding noise. It's going into the dealer for the third time to get the fan replaced (first time they removed the seal said there was no damage, second time replaced the seal said the fan was undamaged, and now they're having to replace the fan as it turns out it's actually damaged and slowly shearing itself to pieces - every time the entire front end has to be dismantled, thank **** for the warrenty!)

MY2000 Clio 172

Owned 19months, 30,000 miles.

apart from normal servicing and consumables like brakes problems have been:

Broken passenger window regulator
Snapped front coil spring
Leaky front shock
Shot tensioner

Oh and also a new front wing when someone decided to interface with it in their daihatsu.

Car is driven hard pretty much everyday :)

Peugeot 306 DT @ 2.5~ years - Turbo blew. Arguably, it shouldn't have been running 20psi.

Rover Coupe Turbo @ 16~ months - Rad rotten, looked like it was the original when I pulled it off; not bad for 11 years of service :)
Nothing else has needed attention, strangely. Replaced a rubber cam cover seal too as it was weeping a bit, I think that was a fiver.

1995 ford escort 1.3 hcs
