Hi All,

Someone posted what I think maybe a solution? The Samsung 2233RZ needs a dual link cable for 120hz to work properly?

Who would buy a 120hz monitor? To not want to use it at 120hz? Pffffft

So I need a different DVI cable?

I hope it all works out.

Here is a link to a suitable cable, but if you want it ASAP then you should be able to find one in a local shop (just make sure you check the connectors before buying).

So how many DVI cables does the 2233RZ come with ? Im sure there was only 1 ? Will have a look when I go in the loft tonight to use the gym..

I should only come with one, and it should be a dual link one. Does it have all the pins, like this one?

As opposed to a single link one, which wouldn't work, like this:

Yes its dual link then. ( The one I got with the 2233RZ ) / So thats not my issue..

Lately I have been having some other issues. A faint blue line of pixels horizontally accross the centre of my screen.. Not using the graphics card in question, my old one. Also, when booting up. I got detecting IDE disk for ages.. had to reboot for it to find it.

Seems as though I've got a problem with my motherboard or power supply. Ever since I fitted the HIS 5970 and Asus Xonar Xense though..

Next step I think would be to get a multimeter and check my power supplying is putting out enough juice? What connectors should give what readings?

If my power supply is ok? Assume its a fault with my motherboard?? Anyway I can test the board?

Rob

Do you have another monitor you could try to rule out that issue?

Hard to test a PSU with a DMM unless its failing in a specific way. Theres all kinds of conditions that could cause degraded performance which a DMM wouldn't show.

Yes but not a 120hz one.. What im saying is ive had 3 different faults since putting the new HIS 5970 in and the Xonar xense..

Initially I got no display at POST.. but Windows would load in the background. I had to reboot up to 5 times in hope I would get a display. That was with the 5970 which is no longer plugged into my system.

I am now using my old 7900GT.. The other day I noticed a faint blue line (not quite a line was a bit skewiff) of pixels across my screen. I turned the monitor off then on again and the line of pixels disappeared.

Following that, One of my boots I got detecting IDE disks or something.. One of the SATA controllers didnt seem like it could find the drive at boot. It just hang..

So, to me, says either motherboard or power supply borking the motherboard?

:((( (All since I bought the 5970 and Xonar Xense.)

I don't have that model of monitor, but I do have a Samsung and sometimes when booting up my monitor doesn't detect the DVI, and I have to hit the button on the monitor to get to DVI, or sometimes my screen isn't lined up with the desktop, a quarter missing and then I have to switch off the monitor and back on, next time you boot it with the 5970 and get a black screen, just check your monitor isn't on VGA or try turning monitor on and off.

This probably isn't to do with your main problem, but you should make sure you fully remove all Nvidia drivers before installing catalyst drivers and using the AMD card.

Have you tried the 5970 with another monitor yet? (perhaps your sharp HDTV) and if so, do you get the same issues? It really doesn't matter that it isn't 120Hz, you want to make sure your 5970 can work correctly with a display.

Do you know anybody nearby with a semi-decent pc setup?

You could pop round with your monitor (hardly heavy) and see if you can get 120hz on that. Must be looooads of people off here alone from in your town..maybe someone will be nice and help :)

Ever since I fitted the HIS 5970 and Asus Xonar Xense though..

You kept that bit a quite didn’t you?!? I’ll assume you tried the ram fix I told you about (take out all the ram, install one module and boot then trying another module etc, etc), now if that didn’t work I would take out all the expansion cards in your PC, take out the CMOS battery, leave it for 10 minutes, put the battery back in, install the video card and see if it will boot.

If it's your monitor that's just not displaying then you PC shoud still be booting, plug the sound back into the onboard sound card and see if you get the Windows jingle to confirm the PC is still booting.

Also, I mentioned this before. I have the Asus Xonar soundcard plugged into one of the big PCIE slots.. This is O.k right? Its the right size for the little brown slot but according to the manual it can go in any of the slots?? I just didnt want to put it right above the graphics card in the brown slot because of the room the breathe factor.. Its O.k in one of the long white slots? Just not using all the pins of the slot??

Hi Rob, can i ask why your qpi/dram voltage is at 1.65V

This should be at a max of 1.35v when overclocking & around 1.1 - 1.2v when running stock.

Corsair Dominator GT 1600Mhz is stated at 1.65v ??

-----------
Gotta go to work now guys, back on tonight for some more troubleshooting..

DRAM Bus voltage is the setting for your memorys voltage.

Qpi/Dram voltage is your cpu's onboard memory controller.

I hope you haven't been running the chip at that voltage for long.

lol 1.65 QPI

Mine sits at 1.35 with a 4.2Ghz overclock.

I'm running 1.3v with 4.0Ghz overclock.

Wouldn't be suprised if that's the cause of his other problems,as surely that high a voltage through his cpu memory controller would quickly start to kill his cpu.
