OcUK RTX4070 review thread

I have a GTX3060ti but Ive gotten really into Stable Diffusion AI art generation so I really want 12GB ram. Is it better to downgrade to a 3060-12GB or just bite the bullet and upgrade to 4070? Dont know why there is such a huge gulf in 12GB cards...

Nvidia spec'd the 3060 with a 192-bit bus and made a decision last minute to stick 12GB on it because the alternative was 6GB. Kind of an accident of history. Great for those of us who got one at MSRP for those kinds of applications.

It's a shame this kind of GPGPU stuff isn't better on AMD because a 6800 XT would be great in theory.

Can only really say when we see prices, I know the MSRP is 580 odd, but if AIB cards end up nudging £700…

Honestly I'm impressed at how the/ my 6800XT is holding up against the 4070. I would have thought the 4070 should beat it considering the 6800XT was slightly cheaper and slightly behind the 3080.

I got mine for £650 on launch. the fact the 4070 will probably cost the same as the current 6800XT price (£570 or so) two years later is funny. Especially since the 6800XT launch, FSR 2 has come along and is in the same games as DLSS 2 pretty much I think?

Edit - 2.5 years ago, blimey.

*strokes 2.5 year old 3080 bought for £650*

Preach

Well even less for me as sold COD for £15 or 20 then my vega 56 for like £220 and 290 for £90 thanks to the mining/covid boom (also got rid of the ps 4 pro and a bunch of games) :p

So anyone with an RTX 3080 / RX 6800XT or higher shouldn't bother
Its clearly aimed at 2070 owners, but with a $100 up sell, its about 60% faster than a 2070 Super for $100 more.

Meh... £600, that's a lot of money, if i was in the budget for a £600+ GPU i might have got the 2080 Super to start with and in that case i would only be for a 45% gain 4 years and 2 generations later.

even AMD cards are comparable in Ray Tracing - for less money :p

Yeah i did notice that, the 6800XT was pretty comparable even in RT and its cheaper.

I'm not saying its the one to buy instead but that is interesting, Nvidia are pushing thier mid range GPU's so far down the stack even AMD older gen cards start to look comparable in RT vs Nvidia's latest.... That is why this is interesting.

Note the 5 year old RTX 2080Ti is within 10% most of the time as well
