It can encourage people to make quality posts rather than LaR etc.

The 'thanks' system many vBulletin boards has works very well imo.

It can be disabled on a per-user or usergroup basis. And not sure how you can abuse someone by clicking a 'thanks' button anyway.

We definitely don't need it and, mercifully, it's extremely unlikely that it would happen.

It can lead to situations where you end up with phantom marker uppers and downers, ie. where people just hit the button based on if the like or dislike that person. Live updates would be very nice however.

Why would it be needed though? Just seems pointless to me, and only as an opportunity for a user to say 'oooo look at me I've got 10393482040 thanks!'.

whatsthe point? ifeveryone just has ****loads of thanks it makes it pointless.

I.e lots of thanks in gd might lead people to think that the crap advice they give in hardware is more relevant.

As I already said, it's useful because a user will think twice before posting crap if they think they're going to be rewarded for posting quality content.

But its all irrelevant, since as been said, there's no way it (or any other changes) will happen here.

If they post crap some people will thank/like it and if they post quality+ crap people will still thank/like the quality.


who would see a useful post and go "oh but normally he posts crap so i wont thank him"?

actually if thye did that it would still ruin the system.
