Hi guys,

Been meaning to create this for ages... that vid thread made me actually do it though :)

Just wanted to see how many of us there are on here, and where we are.

I'm jumping at Peterlee and RAPA. Only B license ATM, but working my way up :)

What about you lot?

For those of you who jump at Lewknor, Weston on the Green or Hinton in the Hedges....

I HATE YOU

Have fun :p

I guess they must cause ATC problems then? :D

what sort of stuff has to be done before you can skydive solo? Ive always wanted to get skydiving, but never wanted to have some1 strapped to my back, would take some of the fun out of it imo.

You have to arrange a course, either RAPS or AFF - look them up on google. It's not cheap - you'll need about £1500 to become a qualified skydiver, which takes at least 18 jumps with AFF. Well worth it though - afterwards you can jump whenever you like, at most £20 a jump (cheaper with special offers/abroad).

Clipsey, are you qualified then? Or have you just done tandems?

Zefan, what about your misses? Qualified?

Don't you need your own gear? Expensive?

I've only done a tandem for charity but it was unbelievable. Was meant to do a fixed line but as it required 2 days we didnt have the time and i looked into AFF when i first started work as i was getting the money in but now other things take all my money i cant afford it really :(

No, you can hire everything from the dropzones, normally pay per day, or per jump. Of course, in the long run, it's cheaper to have your own kit, and nicer too, but no need to buy it all at once.
It's all readily available second hand, too.

Come on then, am I the ONLY qualified skydiver on OcUK?!

Show yourselves!

Can I please ask what video? I have been looking into doing the AFF course in Spain.

Thanks in advance.

Can't see it right now... but go on www.skydivingmovies.com for all the videos you could want! You have to register, but it's free, so do it!

I see you're in Newcastle, too... You at uni by any chance? If not, come jump at Peterlee anyway.

Does anyone have an idea how much would it cost for someone whose never sky dived before to do just one jump? As in can you just walk in, pay £100 or whatever, do some training then go up and do it?

I see you're at Newcastle Uni... if you want, add me on facebook, join the club in September, and you can do a first jump course for £100 IIRC.

You normally have to ring in advance, as they won't run training every day - but they can put you on a course, I'd guess within 2 weeks. After your initial training, you can jump whenever, as the instructors will be there all the time. It's just that initial training takes most of a day, and they'd rather do it with a whole group of people.

Yeah i'd definitely be interested in a bit more info, what's your name? Obviously I can't search under 'cobra' on facebook. :p

went to airborne airshow today. raf falcons parachute display team were there, 3 of them had bad landings, one out of the arena into a lamp post, he"s ok. second one had a hard landing on his arse, but again walked away.. 3rd guy is a NO SWEARING hero... he was heading for the crowd (me and my daughter included) but at the last minute ditch himself into the arena. this was a totally selfless act. i dont know if he"s gonna survive as he hit the ground just a few feet in front of me so fast it made the ground shake. he could have landed onto us but chose to avoid the crowd at the last minute by making a serious kamikaze move which he must have known was gonna end bad for him.. total and complete respect for this guy....i NO SWEARING hope he makes it.

This is from a guy on a different forum i visit.

Anyone hear anything about it?

When was it? If it's recent, I'm sure it'll be on the "incident reports" on a skydiving forum I use.
