Who remembers this?

Ideas of a new "stomp monster" have been brewing for some time. What would be the preferred cause? Folding, Seti etc.

Let me know in the poll :D

No pancake :(

Undecided the folder in me says F@h could do with a boost but would be good to have on the Seti side just for stomping the rear off the other teams in our way :D

I say 50:50, it should be big enough to stomp on both camps and more!
edit:
wonders whether OcUK stomp monster still has/had a boinc combined user id/password so that at least the name can be reused :)

FAH for sure!! Would be great to see what monstrosity Stompy V2 would be! :) Nice to see many new members and a LARGE boost to the team's PPD

it would be a monstrosity

myself and Nath would be having a hardware fight i think :)

what would you guys like to see in it?

*edit from above spec lol
this!!
urgh ignore the GA mobo

I'd build it to be versatile so that we can allocate it to whatever team needs it the most, i.e. if we were under attack by another team or about to be overtaken, or needed to reach a particular milestone.

So 6 way HT Intel CPU's, one would be enough, maybe two, overclocked to an inch of their life.

A 4 way motherboard, I probably wouldn't go for GTX480s, I'd go for 470's as 4 x 480's would kill the machines quick.

Maybe 3 x 470's and a single 5870 for Milkyway@home. :) Not sure if that would work but its worth a try!

Then set it up with scripts and batch files to be able to switch from one project to the other, I mean we are really talking about BOINC tasks mainly and Folding as being the non boinc project. You could do it with batch files easy enough.

Check out the logistics with Spie as well, last time Stompy got retired because of insurance reasons. Probably avoidable if you have the machines in cases (or in a rack) or if its just one machine.

But the spirit of stompy wouldn't necessarily be served by just 1 machine IMHO, it was about building multiple minimal setups with the best bang/buck. In which case, 4 way AMD boards with 4 x GTX460's might be the way to go with a 6 core Phenom.

I have to agree with Biffa here - even though I don't fold. Flexibility - 'tis the key!

Not sure on the specs. Maxing out on GPUs obviously limits the projects that it can participate in - but then again, loadsa GPUs does mean potentially loadsa points for some lucky project.........
