This site is infamous because of its Student population.

But I'm curious as to the ratio of normal people and Students that visit here.

Also a break down of expenditure between these two category's would be nice.

I consider myself a Normal person and spend between £1500 to £2000 a year on hardware at OcUK.

Perhaps we can have a poll about this?

A year?

I'm a student and have spent probably £1500 max over 3 years (next year likely to be zilch since i'll have to be paying hefty masters fees). I basically just had a PC + monitor which has been constantly upgraded. I also have a £350 laptop from my first year. I personally think I've spent absolutely loads.

I'm curious how you spend so much on hardware and can still afford rent, tuition and maintenance. Must have a decent part time job I imagine.

Oh ... I'm not a Student, I'm a Normal person.

So tell me, do you worry about Debt?

Not really. All my loans are paid at 9% over 15k earned which I don't mind. I've also saved up for the masters and so should be able to take out a minimal traditional loan.

I guess I could be considered a Student, I start Uni this year.

On average I would say I've spent £350 a year on PC bits over the last 4 years, although it's a lot more if you count speakers/screen. Closer to £600.

(Just to clarify, not all of that £600 is spent here, but my current CPU, motherboard, RAM, graphics card and case were purchased here.)

You sound quite wise ... I'm proud of you.

We hear so much about irresponsible Students these days.

See english student loans?
Do you guys have to apply to a bank for it, and get all you're years at once? I've read posts people that say they need £20k for their course etc etc

it could just be the way its worded though.

My course is costing £9600 before living costs, text books etc. the base cost of the course is covered by a grant and I also get another £2900 (per year) to cover living expenses.

I've also taken out the maximum loan of around £2500 a year which I won't have to pay back until I am earning £15,000 a year.

I dont think you're going to get an accurate student:normal person ratio by asking at 2:30AM on a sunday night :p.
I'm a student and i spend about 350ish/year average (usually a new £1000 machine every 2-3 years).
Although, the only expenses i have is food + telephone bill.
SAAS pay my fees.
Mum pays my mortgage (which is now less that 1/4 of what it was in september thanks to the interest rates and about 1/2 or 1/3 of what it would cost to rent a similar flat :D )
And i have a decent part-time job and around half of the money i saved up during my gap year left, so i dont have any major money worries. (All my savings are in an ISA tho and i run my current account pretty close to the overdraft limit most of the time, so i have had a couple of minor money-related scares like realising i'd spent 70p more in Lidl than i had in my account and having to phone mum and ask her to send me £1 through online banking before the Lidl sale went through about midnight :p )

Do you still manage a night out once in a while?

Basically government loans. Around 5-6.5k a year (london). Interest rate is RPI or base rate + 1%, which ever is lower. So in real terms your debt stays the same. Also you pay for it via a "tax" which is equal to 9% on every pound earnt above £15k.

Well, even given that the clocks have went forward 1 hour, I guessed there would be a lot of Student still up ... and I was right!

I guess its prime time for Students.

I think most students' terms/semesters have ended so that should help.
