Hi all,

Been a while since ive been on the forums.

Anyway, to the point, im looking at replacing my AMD 3800x2, 8800GTX system and getting something a little more up to date, now I dont have the time anymore to build this myself so thought about using the ocuk system builder and was after some advice on what options would fit better than others.

Things I do want:

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail

16Gb RAM

relatively quiet

But im struggling in terms of graphics (is SLI worth it), cpu cooler and mobo.

Games I will likely be playing are things like ARMA3, (which is raping my 8800GTX lol) I dabble in minecraft plus a load of other random games so performance across the board is better than working brilliant in top end FPS and not in other types of games.

budget is around 1200 but I would stretch for the right build.

Also just for nostalgia i have to add a  (I missed you rolleyes smiley.)

Is there any reason you want the AMD FX? The new 4670k is so much better and at £1200, the AMD would be a wasted investment IMO.

I would consider something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7970 IceQ X² GHz Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H797QMC3G2M) £335.99

I have recommended the 7970 as it's a superb price and at your budget, easily achived. You could also look at the 770 or 780, if you prefer nVidia. SLI/xFire would be a benefit if you are running over multiple monitors, however, if you can keep this going for another few years, you may find yourself needing a 2nd card anyway. I have added a MOBO & PSU capable of supporting SLI/xFire.

Are those options in the system builder or am I looking in the complete wrong place. Bare in mind I wont have the time to build this myself so its got to come complete from OcUK.

edit - ignore me, i AM blind.

I probably should have mentioned that this rig will also be used to do my work which requires quite a bit of RAM and multitasking galore hence the 8 cores.

So if i go water how much maintenance is needed over air?

hmm also no 7 series nvidia gpus showing in the builder...wonder why.

The cooler is a closed loop cooler, you wouldn't need to do anything to it. Hows this as an alternative, but building is cheaper than a pre-built.

From a quick search I've read that the 8 core AMD's aren't as powerful as the quad core Intel's. I do a lot of media work and the quad-core's have served me well.

Apparently it's something to do with the latency lag, so having the 8 cores doesn't make a difference; whether this applies to your specific choice of AMD CPU I'm unsure.
