Hey.

So i noticed the price of the OCUK value 7970 compared to the Sapphire version, from what i can see both are reference design, so why is the sapphire even more expensive?

Am i missing something obvious or am i right in any way?

Thanks!

One is at the normal price and so you have to wait 10 days + delivery.

27th is only a guess as well, they could decide to allocate all their VTX (or whatever brand they decide to use) to a higher price not called "ocuk".

They should be pretty much identical, you pay extra for the branding and also sometimes there are games or extras which are sold with the card e.g crossfire bridges etc...
Also Sapphire and Asus for example have a longer warranty than the OcUK ones.

Damn it got there before me.

Warranty and name, name doesn't matter to much. Mind you it hasn't mattered since the days of 3DFX and Nvidia really. Expensive business doing non reference cards.

Thanks for the help, i was planning on purchasing a OCUK value one as i have all necessary cables and stuff, gonna be upgrading from my 6870.

Is the price of the 7970 going to drop a bit with the 7950 or is this a set price?

Thanks again!

The site of that leaked looked dodgy so i'm not trusting it until i get an official word from nVidia, if the nVidia 680 does come out in Febuary i might consider getting one instead of a 7970, all depends on cooling for me.

The price difference is for the sapphire sticker and extra 1 year warranty

Apparently Sapphire include one of their own Mini DP - HDMI adapters that sell for £30 or so.

IIRC £439 is the RRP of all the cards. Some manus are just charging lots for their sticker.

I guess it depends how urgently you need it really. If I was going to buy one I would wait until i knew what nvidia were bringing to the table...

you get 5 adaptors/cables - mini-dp to dvi, mini-dp to hdmi-female, hdmi to dvi, hdmi to hdmi and dvi to vga

Probs roughly a set price at least until Nvidia comes along with a competitor, which if you believe the leaks is february...

I've heard they're releasing a 'Stop Gap Card' for March to compete with 7900 range but dont expect anything amazing.
