Hi Guys,

Similar to the PhotoComp but without judges or scoring the winner gets voted by the community and then decides the next challenge.

It's just an idea so we all can keep our creative juices flowing weekly while waiting for the PhotoComp results at end of the month.

Obviously a nice kind mod will have to organise this so we can have it stickied and set the Vote's up each week.

What are your thoughts?

I'd enter when I can, as I personally have a weekly challenge with my 52 thinggie anyway. But yea, a little community vote type would be great.

We can always make it less 'bias' by asking all entrant to email the image to the OP/week winner and he/she will load it up on 1 or 2 posts, with numbers / titles for people to vote on it 'unbiased' and then have the revealed when voting ends...

I know people can check other people's flickr to see it but it makes the voting a little bit fairer?

Yes, submitting without people know who's photo is who's is the best way.

If it isn't that - I'd say it's quite possibly not a great idea as such..

Also - They can just refrain from uploading to flickr until after? It's only a few days!!

I don't think a lot of bias goes on with the proper competition so it's not needed to do it anonymously. Just have a mod trawl through a thread on a Saturday/Sunday, take note of the post number of the thread and then stick it in a poll.

But that could result in everyone voting for their own? lol :p
Only 1 vote more versus everyone else on OcUK? I'm sure most people wouldn't do that unless they sincerely believe this shot is the winner... be it from an inflated ego or just self believe.

I agree to an extend but this is an open competition, and open vote for anyone on OcUK too, so it's possible for a degree of bias-ness.

Either that or she's found someone with a 5DMKii :p

Coupled with one of these:

SS - don't worry, it's not the number of pixels that count, it's what you do with them....

A great idea, I would be up for it. We could keep entries and discussion in two threads?

Anonymous sounds good too. Although, not sure how it could be managed without it failing somehow.

For a start we all use different hosting for images so it would be possible to tell by looking at where the image was hosted (to some extent).

We could set up a shared account (somewhere like flickr) entrants could be given the user/pass and could then post their images there. Non-one other than the entrant would know which image was theirs.

Or a simple PHP app could allow people to login and post an entry. This would be uploaded to some hosting with a record being kept by the system as to which user uploaded which image. A thread here could be pre-populated with image links (image001.jpg image.002 etc etc). As users posted images that would simply start to appear. Once a winner has been decided the mappings could be revealed. This is more complicated than the flickr idea but would keep it internal to these forums. Plus the person who sets up the php app would know the mapping.

Wow, nice idea with the pre-populated image links.

I thought of the Flickr idea too, but the problem with a shared login is that it only takes one idiot to come along and be destructive that it could ruin it for all of us.

We could do a bi-weekly competition; this allows one week for entering and one week for voting (not everyone is on the forums every day). This allows the winner of each week to collate all the entries into one post for the first day of voting for the following week. Gives everyone enough time to get to see the entries. I think it will get a lot more people entering too; as the balance between forums, taking a photo and 'life' can be made. Keeps it all in the forums too.

Sounds like a grand idea! Is that much work for someone to setup/manage? Once its in place will it just run itself? :)
