Hi
My brother ordered a few things from here, (970, case, cpu cooler and an ssd)
He received them last thursday, However the ssd appears to be faulty, doesnt appear on pc, cant initialise it, etc
Tried it in my pc and the same, nothing!

He contacted ocuk the day he received it and as finally got an rma

However my brother just said he has to post it back?
Surely that isnt right, why should he pay to return a faulty item? He didnt leave it 10 days etc he contacted them within hours of the parcel turning up

He has been in contact with bailey and my brother showed me his thread in the CS forum, and although bailey as dealt with it (took a while to get an rma though) he keeps dodging the "who pay to return this" question my brother has asked a few times..

Surely my brother does not have to pay to return it?

If the item is found to be faulty, then OCUK will refund the postage cost (keep the receipt until sorted).

If its not faulty, then your brother pays the postage :)

Think ill get brother to post it (special delivery) then ask him to put post office receipt in packaging before sealing the bag

Keep the receipt, then when its sorted, post a copy in the CS section, don't lose your only copy! :)
Our local post office staff are ok, if i ask for a second receipt they will provide me with one, done it a few times when having to send proof of postage with the item when sending items back on ebay etc

Also confirm they will cover the full cost of returning the item. I have known retailers to state they will cover return postage up to a point, e.g. £3.50 but that may not be enough to cover an adequately insured (especially important for high value items) & tracked postal service, e.g. RM Special Delivery.

Good point to make for other etailers, though OCUK are mustard, they will sort it out.

Basically, 2 options:

1) If its not too much to send back and as long as you use the correct postage option, i.e. You don't use Special Delivery when 1st class would have you covered (insurance value wise) then OCUK will refund the cost.

2) If its a big/heavy and/or an expensive item, it may be cheaper for OCUK to arrange the collection on their shipping account, so best ask them if your return falls into this category?

I've had no issues with returns when it comes to OCUK, and Bailey is a top bloke, so you'll be ok :)

I have a suspicion that it's ocuk policy not to explicitly offer to pay for faulty return post. They do cover it, but you have to do a bit of gentle pestering, from experience.

I'm fine with that- if others are happy enough, lazy enough, or ignorant enough not to persue it, then by all means they can help maintain ocuk's profit margin whilst I enjoy lower prices :)

I ended up paying return postage, the not faulty fee and then return postage again when I had to send back a faulty GTX 670.

Ended up costing me loads.

Its only an ssd, so not that big or heavy.. But would like him to have some insurance/cover etc
I just think items deemed DOA, i even contacted crucial on his behalf, they said there is no firmware etc for the mx100 and the fact 2 different pc's cant see the pc, in bios or in windows etc they said it was possible it was faulty
So he contacted ocuk the same day and pointed all this out to bailey

Well he is awaiting a response from bailey anyway because the rma says replacement, and he wants a refund because he couldnt wait for this whole turnaround so picked one up instore at a local shop

Are you sure it's actually dead? I stupidly spent ages trying to troubleshoot a new hard drive as it wouldn't show on any of my pc's. I hadn't assigned the drive a letter/format via my computer/mange drives.

Make sure you take photos of serial numbers before posting back DOA products, scummy companies have been known to do switch aroos and claim item is not faulty!

I was recently sold an item incorrectly and yet I still had to pay shipping to return it. :(

Fish

The company was legally obligated to pay for return postage (DOA or wrong items / incorrectly advertised items are included in this legal requirement).
Know your consumer rights guys and don't let scummy companies mug you off by shirking their legal responsibility's!!!!
