Would any one be interested or see a use in an OcUK wiki?

I know each of the forums have stickies with relevant links and posts which somewhat fill the roll of community knowledge base. But I think a wikipedia style wiki created by the OcUk community could include a lot more info that can be of use, but may not be forum material. As well as being a fun project.

If enough people are up for it and it's ok with the offical types, how do we go about it? Do we create our own wiki software or any preferences to existing wikis? Content and editing rights and site admin ideas, aswell as other web related stuff such as domain names and server space ideas?

Im thinking along those lines but thats just one aspect of the hardware forums. Technology guides, OS and software, networking, history and background. Maybe if the project takes off a magazine style sub project?

Hello Da_Big_Jeff, would you care to explain what sort of information the Wiki (If it was going to go ahead) would contain please? :)

I was thinking the same thing for Windows Licensing and hardware questions.

Hey swinnie, what sort of information would need to be said about the Windows Licensing that hasn't already been covered here? :)

OK. I have server space that will be free to host a project like this around mid January so hosting isn't a problem for the start of the project. The affiliation is up to the OcUK bods but I think editors and admins should be elected from the forums.

Content wise, all PC and hardware stuff goes without saying. Basically any subject which is article worthy and relevant to the forums. So glossary of terms, breakdown of technologies, how to guides, software, stuff of genral techie interest. Anything that is submitted gets a chance to go in as long as the editors approve it.

If anybody has any more ideas post 'em.

Hey Da_Big_Jeff, it's a very nice idea but surely it would be much easier and more appropriate if the information that a particular member has created to be stickied. I would also have to agree with semi-pro waster, it would help if people actually started looking and reading the current stickies.

Maybe if the current stickies were made to stand out a lot more, say for example, coated in a different colour, then they would, might get a lot more interest.

Though I am not disputing your idea Da_Big_Jeff, it's a nice idea. :)

Nice idea and if it had a decent search engine. Would be a lot easier than the stickies. And could contain a lot more info.

It would be a lot of effort to set up though. To ensure things aren't added that shouldn't be, before it's published it could be checked by someone.

I would agree with you AcidHell2 as regards to, it could well be easier to search through the information that is submitted compared to the stickies. However, surely this would defeat the object of the Forums, if you see what I mean?

Now if this does go ahead, we still have to actually have people write the information out in the first place. :)
