OcUK X1950Pro 512MB... D.O.A

My powersupply is a Seasonic S12 430W, the same guys who make the current Corsair PSU's. More than good enough for a 2180 at stock, 1GB RAM (I have 4GB but I tested with only one in) and an X1950pro (supposably low power if the blurb on ocuk website is to be believed). Only one hard drive too, and a DVD drive.

Plus if it was my power supply then it either wouldn't post/boot at all or it would boot up and then blue screen all the time.
 
Just to be clear, it doesn't show ANYTHING on screen, I just know the computer is booting in the background because of the hard drives making noises, the lights on the keyboard flashing once etc. So I don't think that's the same as what's happening to others? My PSU have 14A on one rail and 15A on the other, so a combined 29A. Surely that's enough?
 
Well that sucks. Looks like new PSU time :( . Shame really as this one is totally silent and there is nothing actually wrong with it!

Think I'll go for a Corsair 520W, should be more than good enough I'd have thought? Won't be needing any more power any time soon so 620W is probably too much.

As a side note, what coolers fit these cards? Need something silent as my Zalman VF900 won't fit, the holes are too far apart.
 
I thought it should be capable. Thanks for an example Sean_UK, this system should be pulling less than that spec if anything!

stickroad, which 4pin do you mean? I have an 8pin on this PSU if that's the connector you're talking about. Unless I've missed one. Will check now..

Well this board has an 8 pin connector which can have just a 4pin plugged in if your PSU doesn't have the 8pin (it even comes as standard with a blanking plate over 4 of them). I have the 8pin plugged in, a standard molex which goes straight into the board and yes, I had the 6pin PCI-E connector in too (but that was from an adapter coming from 2 molex, tried both from one lead and from seperate leads.. made no difference).

Number of posts means naff all, I haven't upgraded my PC for about 2 years prior to this :) .
 
Unfortunately none of my mates have PCI-E. All older systems with AGP :( . I think I'll give the card another try with the molex's on various different leads in different combinations to check (there are 3) before I RMA... but I'm not too hopeful for it working.
