hmm

Trouble is, arent the people who buy standard Q6600's risking buying a `binned` one that you've previously tested that didnt quite hit the mark? (meaning there's now a nigher percentage of poorer cpu's than normal)

Also, if these are Retail packets, what happens to the ones you test and fail? Do they now get repackaged as OEM (as the seal will be broke)

Or do they all just run at 3Ghz anyway, hence you dont even have to break the seals??

cheers

Very interesting questions and theory there mate. Wouldn't mind some answers to these.

And yes, I'm well aware that most Q6600's do 3GHz fine anyway. It's just pleasing to see OcUK doing something similar to what they did many years ago.

I would presume there will be some T&C's for this though.

What if the chip is stable in one machine at the "Guaranteed" speed and not in another (due to mobo/cooling/memory limitations)?

Thats good to know at least Gibbo.

So it's essentially what happened with the Opterons a couple of years ago, where people are paying a premium for a certain batch that clock better?

Just rebranded under the "Guaranteed" range so to speak?

Are you sure you have got a SLACR G0 model?

I personally haven't seen a poor clocking G0 yet.

Popped mine into my new motherboard last night, changed the FSB to 333 and I'm rock solid at 3Ghz, I'm also Prime stable at around 3.3GHz and haven't had time to go further. No voltage changes needed to either of them, although I believe if I need to go further I'll have to up the voltage.

Was watercooled, now under a Tuniq Tower.
