So when I placed my order in March, I was told Late August for delivery. "No worries" I thought to myself, plenty time to hold off on the powerplant and give Nvidia time to release Pascal.

Next thing I know, it's 30th June and Oculus goes and hands my rift to a UPS driver. Houston we have a problem. Oculus arriving monday and I've nothing to plug it into

So I'm in a hurry for a good build and, lo and behold, my old mates at OCUK are still in business (Last time I was here there was a Quake3 trickjumping section - where's that gone?) Yeah - I've been out the PC gaming business for a few years

Best system I could afford looked to be Titan Aurora, upped to 16gig and a 1080 - this is the part where everyone tells me - "Terrible choice" :D Give me a break, guys, I was in a hurry and didn't really have time to investigate what's happened to PC gaming in my absence.

Quick heart attack when I realised that "No OS" didn't mean "No media required" it actually meant "No OS" - go figure. USB from M$ in the post with no OEM discount

Still, all said, I'm totally stoked! VR (albeit clunky 1st gen format) is finally here. Somehow I've lived long enough to see it. All I have to do is stay sane from Monday til whenever the rig arrives which is a tall order in itself. Maybe just wearing it on my head and hallucinating a bit will be enough to take the edge off.

So. Ahead of the parts arriving, I figured this might be the best place to ask - what do I need to know?

Okay, so unboxing electronic kit for me has traditionally been a total mehfest of ripping stuff apart as delicately as possible and then getting on with the main event. However, Oculus have taken unboxing and turned it into theater. Hate to admit it but I'm impressed.

So that's me for the next week or so - admiring the box :(

Bank account got hit on thursday, got delivered yesterday via Eindhoven NL to Central Scotland. Can't fault the turnaround. UPS dropped it off exactly when they said they would.

@Surfer - when you say "Spare" HDMI, you mean I need two?

Oculus gave me a tracking number link to UPS site. Never emailed me or anything, I had to check myself. Just so happened when I did check they had shipped that morning (synchronicity)

However there was no update on oculus site ever. UPS kept me up to date.

@Surfer - when you say "Spare" HDMI, you mean I need two?

1 for monitor
1 for Oculus Rift

I only had one hdmi on my 980GTX so initally tried used a DVID-HDMI adapter...but that didnt work due to various complications.

So have now bought a DP-HDMI adaptor (as i had 3 spare DP slots on the 980)

Fingers crossed it will work.

edit: well Oculus rift still wouldnt work with a DP adaptor so just plugged it in directly to hdmi port and used the DP adaptor for my monitor and things seem to be working ok.

though my xbox one controller refuses to work or rather the wireless usb charger thing refuses to work or even switch on. Horrible device it is. My own wired xbox 360 controller works but why should i have to just do with that if ive paid for the xbox one controller as part of the rift package...

How long is the wait now till shipping. I've heard about a month? is that true?

Just dropped off my DK2 at cex today to make funds for a newer one.
Can't really decide between DK2 or vive just yet.

@Surfer - Mobo seems to have HDMI slot but I don't have an HDMI monitor anyway. Was just going to use an old displayport fella I have lying around. Card has plenty of those. I'm not really interested in non-VR use for the moment.
