Surprised that there hasn't been more mention of the fact that the Oculus CV1 goes officially on sale as of next Tues in a variety of UK retailers, at last 2 of them being high street chains.

I had a DK2 recently. Wasn't that impressed, in particular with the SDE (screendoor effect), which I found pretty much impossible to ignore. Still an amazing experience in DCS, but annoying all the same.
I'll certainly be trying to find a store who can show a CV1 to me on demo, such that I can judge for myself about SDE. What I've read on the net is that it's massively better in the CV1.

Anyone else?

I'm sure i read johnlewis will be selling them, i'm hoping they have 1 on display since theres a shop in glasgow city centre.

I had a look on their website. That was suggesting that it'll only be on demo at their Oxford st store.
For all that, they operate a returns policy meaning that you could happily buy one, test it for a couple of weeks, then return if you don't get on with it (assuming it's still in perfect condition).
No clues as to where I'll be on Tues...
Just pre-ordered. Apparently I can collect in my local Waitrose.

Picked mine up this morning. Haven't had it up and running for that long. Had a quick play in DCS and a slightly longer session in ED.
The visuals are clearly better than the DK2, to the point where I'm happy with that.

ED, utterly fabulous. Awesome feeling of piloting.

The only downside I have at the moment is how tight the headband is. Makes putting it on whilst wearing glasses a bit of a practiced art.

No idea about the variable focusing, I'll do have a look.

The headband issue was shall we say "user error". I was in such a hurry to stick it on my noggin, that I hadn't spotted the really obvious velco ties on either side of the unit that can be used to give some comfort room. Still requires the right technique to put on, but that's only to avoid my glasses. Otherwise, it's spot on.

Initial thoughts:
- Visuals aren't perfect. Suffers from "God Rays" and the resolution still isn't on par with my monitor. Being fair, the resolution is more than acceptable
- As I was putting the unit on and off a number of times, I personally found it hard to keep the the combination of glasses and lenses clear, which results in smudging of the image. I've put a good micro-fibre cloth next to my desk to see if that resolves
- SDE is MASSIVELY better than the DK2. Sure, hasn't completely eliminated it, but it's at a point that it's easy to ignore
- Couldn't really tell a lot of difference on comfort to the DK2, though others do. Does feel like I could happily wear it for a good while.

Tried it with the following:
DCS. Just fabulous. Should be sold as part of their software kit
Elite Dangerous: Awesome. I understand why this is the top recommended game for VR. Amazing feeling. Weird when the fingers in game move whilst yours don't.
Assetto Corsa: Didn't rate this at all on the DK2. Hugely better on the CV1. I owned an AE82 when I was younger and took out the Ae86. Driving is MUCH easier than say on a monitor, and the interior really does feel as naff as the AE82 did.

Looks like this one will be staying.

Edit: Just found out that a group called Mocreo are selling lens adapters, for which you could buy a pair of cheap prescription lenses, then mount into the CV1. Trying to find a UK stockist at the moment.

Update, and this is cool.

Found a thread by a person who's designed a 3D printable lens adapter.
Link is here:
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1602460/#files

These take 40mm diameter standard glasses prescription lenses. So basically, get this printed, amble down to your local optician and job's a good un'

Then found a fairly local service who can print them:
https://www.3dprint-uk.co.uk/3d-printing-service

The quote from this printer came in at £16.40 per unit (in black). Unfortunately they have a minimum spend of £40. So my thoughts were to order 3. One for me, one as a spare and one that I'd probably Ebay.

Ah, the joys of technology.
Any want one?
