Which do you use for PCVR?

I experimented with OpenXR but I wasn't sure if it made any difference.

Now there is apparently a dedicated Virtual Desktop version of OpenXR.

How does one switch between different runtimes to test them properly?

For Meta hmd's, you can switch to Oculus in the Oculus Home application (it's under the Beta tab i think). To switch it back to SteamVR open the SteamVR application and iirc it's in something like Settings>Developer Options (you might have to select show advanced options first), you can do this on your desktop.

For Oculus headsets you need to use the Oculus version of OpenXR runtime or you'll get very bad performance in OpenXR games. In general if a game offers an Oculus specific version then use that on an Oculus headset as you'll get much better performance.

oculus native if available its loads better than steamVR (on an oculus/meta headset).

i dont know about openXR on an oculus headset, however on a windows MR headset however openXR is head and shoulders better than steamVR which, IME is universally crap ****

**** albeit i have not tried it enough on a headset such as the index or Vive where steamVR may be native and run better.
