Oculus Quest 2 Jail Broken

Watching this with interest. Anyone hoping to take advantage of the exploit would be smart to remove internet access now though. As yet, the nature of the exploit isn't public knowledge. If it's a software exploit, it's likely to get patched quickly.

what advantage would it have though?

That remains to be seen. But potentially it means freedom from the Oculus/Facebook ecosystem, and all of the concerns over account security and data tracking that come with that platform. In turn, that means it's impossible to legitimately play Oculus store games. But there's still Sidequest. And there's potential for standalone software to be used for PCVR (or maybe VD will launch a Sidequest version).

How would it mean free games??

I'm also watching this with keen interest.
I bought a quest 2. Made a Facebook account as it was a requirement but then it blocked the account straight away for some reason.
The store I bought it from wont take it back and I cannot log on to facebook .... extremely annoyed.

I also had to create a facebook account just to activate it. Didn't even use a real name for the account and I got banned straight away. Moments later, I tried to re-log into it and it all worked. Quest 2 activated as much of the privacy shizz locked down as I'm never going to use facebook, and only one freebee game from their store, so no biggie if I get banned again.

Tried logging in and still the account is locked.
There is some row going on in Germany between facebook and the quest. Think German Gov is against this sort of thing. Facebook has pulled quest 2 from sales as a result.

If it remains solely Germany, they won't change anything, since I suspect plenty of quests are being sold in amazon.fr etc, and simply getting posted to germany. If it becomes the whole of the eu, then it may change.

Personally, I have a facebook I use a bit, I use whatsapp on my android phone, and use chrome as my browser on a windows machine. I share my wifi with my wife. My wife never logs into her facebook, but facebook has probably built a large profile on her from her friends accounts and her whatsapp use anyway. My best defence from data harvesting is probably my job, which has me opening hundreds of websites a day on an enormous range of topics.

Basically, unless you've been really careful, facebook probably knows a lot about you already.

Yep, created a Facebook account for my Quest - never had one before, using a long used email address. Immediately Facebook recommended family, colleagues, and people I know on the internet as friends. Scary what they do know about you even if you've not used Facebook before.
