I would like someone to spec me a motherboard, graphics card, ram and cpu for around £1000 for the Oculus Rift.
Should I spend the extra money on an i7 or will an i5 do the job just fine?

Many thanks >.<

Id wait till another gen has gone by as the field of view on the oculus is as good as the HTC vive and resolution could be better.

They are both going to be largely the same. Both have 1080x1200 per eye which is enough for immersion.
Most reports say that the Rift has less screen-door effect than the Vive due to the custom Samsung screens.

However, unless you are really in to the VR scene and are happy to have very little content to play at launch, I'd wait too.
I've pre-ordered the Rift and will also pre-order the Vive too but I'm very in to the scene and will be evaluating them for other uses too.

Same here. I'd advise the people new to VR to wait until you get some reviews and discussions about hardware requirements and what to expect. The fact is, we still don't know, besides DK2 experiences.

For me, I'm all in :) but it might not be for everyone, or maybe your expectations are too high. The amount of games and experiences isn't gonna be great at launch, you gonna have teething problems, ect...

But yeah, as far as the recommended hardware goes, for now, i5 + GTX970. £1,500, including a Rift.

This is what I'm thinking of ordering to get me started on my build, I'll be using my old tower and PSU, will buy other components when funds are available.
What do you think?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £580.47
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Not sure a socket 1151 processor will work in a socket 2011 motherboard ;) better getting a 5820k processor instead. You will need to buy a cpu heatsink as well.

If you want to save money to pump into a GPU which will be incredibly important, you could get a socket 1150 board an a Xeon E1231v3, which is a cheaper way of getting an i7. (Xeon is i7 without igpu, otherwise same)

GPU is critically important, I would be aiming at a 980Ti for a Rift build ideally. If frames drop below 60 it really hurts immersion.
