Oculus is getting pre-ordered straight away on Wednesday afternoon :) I need help with bringing my system up to spec!

I have to get myself three USB 3.0 ports on my P6TD Deluxe (X58) mobo (spare PCIe 2.0 x4 & 2x16's).
I also have the H440 case with two built in USB 3.0 (20-pin header) which I'de like to enable if possible.

I have spent over four hours researching the best possible card. I read that most x1 PCIe cards are compromised when it comes to transfere speed. With this in mind the only ones I could find were in the StarTech range, the PEXUSB3S42V and PEXUSB3S44V, with 2 and 4 dedicated USB controllers, respectively. However, these cards do not have an internal USB 3 header and are relatively expensive.

Anyone had to make a similar upgrade or can provide some advice please?

EDIT : ignore me. I'll keep digging. But I've seen cards with both external and internal USB3 ports.

TBH, I guess you'll have no choice but to go with a good PCI-E USB3 card. Maybe ask the Oculus forums. More chances of someone being in the same situation. ANd check if you need 'good' USB3, or decent USB3. I dont' think the traffic will be that intense. Maybe it's mostly a power thing.

Google this, and it's the first link. Can't post it here.

Inateck PCI-E to USB 3.0 2-Port PCI Express Card and 15-Pin Power Connector, Mini PCI-E USB 3.0 Hub Controller Adapter, with Internal USB 3.0 20-PIN Connector - Expand Another Two USB 3.0 Ports - [ Include with A 4pin to 2x15pin Cable + A 15pin to 2x 15pin SATA Y-Cable ]

Got one of these in my x58 system, works spot on, but haven't got anything of decent speed to test. I only bought it for the case header

Thanks for the speedy response! I will try the Oculus forums too. That's my concern, cheap x1 PCIe shared ports or a more expensive card which I can feel confident in.

Will do mushtafa ;) thanks!

Am I not reading that you'll actually need 4 ports for the Rift?

DK2 needs 2, CV needs 4 (3x USB 3, 1x USB 2).

Peoples estimates seem to fall between 350 and 450 GBP. The price hasn't been confirmed but Palmer Lucky did mention/suggest in an interview that it would be slightly more than the DK2.

Yes, for the full experience Lucky also confirmed 3x3.0 and 1x2.0 USB ports to operate with the Oculus, XBOX1 controller and Oculus Touch controllers, without gaving to switch around cables between games.

forgive me if this is already answered but with the pre order is there uk/eu stock in place or is it a case of ordering from the states and being hit with import tax etc?

They say it's a global launch so I'm assuming that all of that should be handled. Could be wrong though.

Got mine in the March delivery too. Gotta get that USB card now and upgrade back to a 970 by launch. Happy times ahead! :D

Mine is due for April :( Problems with the order process, set me back a bit.

NVidia is looking to support for VR as well. Who knows, maybe they'll have a 'VR Edition' 970, with a couple of 'Carmack Tweaks' in time for the first orders. Completely speculating though, but anyways... :)
