Hey,

So I'm going to buy a Rift this week or next.

What do I need to get?

My current setup is a GTX 670 gaming PC connected to my Denon AVR Via HDMI.
I have a few USB ports used up for small stuff like bluetooth, keyboard, etc. I'm sure I can switch them to USB 2.0. I believe I'll have 2 USB 3.0 ports.

I'm going to buy a RTX 2080 most likely to power up the headset. What else do I need? Do I need an adaptor to convert one of the ports to HDMI (as I don't have have 2 HDMI ports..?)

USB 3.0 PCIE card??

Please help, thanks.

The Cable Matters Display Port to HDMI adapter works fine with the Rift. I've been using one for months with no issues.

OcUK don't seem to sell this exact model so I'd either ask their staff to confirm if the ones they sell will work, or wait and see if anyone here has used them with their Rift.

As for the PCIE card, the Inateck Superspeed 4 port PCI-E to USB 3.0 card is recommended by Oculus themselves.

Again OcUK don't appear to sell this model themselves, so best have a look on Google.

The the oculus compatibility tool to check your USB’s, the Rift sensors are very picky when it comes to USB bandwidth, if the test fails on USB’s buy the inatech pcie USB adapter (I have the 4 port version)

RTX 2080 may be overkill, I ran a Rift fine with a 1070.

Coincidentally I have been thinking about getting rid of my Rift, touch and 3 aeanor setup. I won't talk about that too much here however, I'll make a thread at some point.

I wouldn't say the 2080 is overkill tbh. The faster a card is, the less messing about with settings, etc…, you would need to do to stop ASW kicking in.

Some people don't like the artifacts that ASW can cause, so the faster the card the better really imho.

Even a 2080Ti wouldn't be 'overkill' for VR as you could probably run most games at very high/full settings at 90fps ( thinking about flight / racing sims here )

Overkill for your bank balance then yes, but not for VR. Buy the fastest card you can afford.

It might even be fast enough to not require an upgrade for the '2nd gen' headsets when/if they appear in 1-2 years time ( apparently )

Lol overkill may have been the wrong word. Basically saying those cards are really expensive especially if this is a temporary purchase just for a Rift, before going with Quest.

What you need is this

'CSL - 4K Ultra HD Displayport to HDMI adapter with audio transmission'

That solves your HDMI problem.

Since you have such a small room you won't need three sensors. That means you will need a total of 3 spare USB ports. As long as they are decent ports it doesn't matter too much if they are USB 2 or 3. Run the Oculus tool compatibility wizard and see if the ports pass the test. If they fail the test come back here and let us know and we will advise accordingly.

Other than that, you don't really need anything to get up and running. And that's what I would do. Get the Rift, set it up and then decide if you need to spend more money in improving things.
