Hey guys,

I’m considering getting two sets of this fantastically priced ram: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-072-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=813 to pair with an e8400 I have on order. I’ll be upgrading from a pair of PC5300 Ballistix.

Someone on another thread said that this ram with the e8400 would not be a good pairing? Can anyone elaborate on this?

Also, is it going to be okay on my Gigabyte mobo, because I don’t really want to have to start upgrading that yet…

Cheers,

SW.

The reason they said that was that the multiplier on the E8400 is only 9x, therefore if the memory does not overclock well (say 900mhz), you will be limited to running 450fsb on the processor which would yield a 4050mhz clock. So not bad at all IMO...but if your mobo and CPU do 500fsb and your memory can only do 450mhz then that would be annoying...for me at least.

However, the Ballistix 5300 are far superior to the OCZ Platinum in my opinion. I've never seen a set of 5300 Ballistix sticks that didn't do 500fsb...mine do over 600fsb

The OCZ RAM is really good if the FSB is less than 450, but with a "wolf" you'd be better off getting another set of ballistix to go with ones you already have.

NB I have 2 sets of the OCZ, one struggles to do 450, the other just manages 470.
