Hey. I just got a alienware 7500 and it came with 1gb DDR2 patriot xtreme ram. I looked it up and the patriot is PC6400 800MHZ.
So, I just ordered 2gb of the OCZ stuff on sale here atm and wondered if they would work OK together.
I also want to OC the alienware as its got an arctic freezer and soon to have 2 9800gt's with arctic twin turbos, but Ive never OCed before.
I had a fiddle (my board is the EVGA 680 or 690 SLI) and managed to seperate the fsb from the memory, and, managed to get the E4500 to 2.75ghz stable (well, Im not sure as IE kept freezing but that was on home basic with no SP).
After which I downclocked the rig and it was still crashing in IE so I installed Vista Black ed.
To save me creating another thread can anyone point me to a good writeup or experienced stable overclock for this chip and the kind of settings involved?
Ive never EVER oced before whilst having to change any voltages, ram timings or anything else so would really appreciate some good advice.
I dont want my rig to have to break sweat (and I dont think it will, even at 2.75 it was at 35c) and it will need to be stable througout for the long term.
Id be happy with a 2.6ghz clock tbh, with a oc of the sli'd graphics cards. But all within safe boundaries of course.
