Hi Guys,

I'm trying to upgrade my old gaming PC (which I now use as a server) from 4GB to 8GB of RAM. With DDR2 RAM costing an arm and a leg now i've resorted to looking at used stuff on fleabay.

At the moment I have 4 x 1GB sticks of OCZ SLI Ready RAM (http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-ddr2-pc2-6400-sli-ready-edition-dual-channel-eol.html).

I found on eBay 2 x 2GB of this OCZ Platinum RAM (http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-ddr2-pc2-6400-vista-performance-platinum-4gb-dual-channel.html).

So I purchased them and figured an upgrade to 6GB would do for now, but am gutted to find that they don't work with my current RAM. Any ideas why?

The motherboard posts fine with just the platinum RAM in but when I add 2 x 1GB of the SLI ram too it won't post, I've tried clearing the CMOS and no luck. I'm guessing the timings just don't match up, if this is the case I guess my option is to try and find another 2gb sticks of the platinum RAM, I have found this ebay auction - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4gb-2-x-2...-5-4-4-1-4-gb-kit-/261076538080#ht_581wt_1163, will these work with the other platinum stuff I got?

By the way my motherboard is an Abit IP35 Pro.

Thanks!

Alex

God that ram is expensive! Why not just stick with the 2x4GB and look for another pair of them? I would never try to mix 2gb and 1gb together especially if they arent the same timings or voltage.

I know! so frustrating when DDR3 is so cheap now but I can't justify rebuilding the whole system as it's a decent spec and only really used to serve media and downloads etc. Ok well I think i'll buy another 2x4gb platinum and sell my 1gb sticks as a set.

cheers
