Hello folks,

Just wondering if anyone knows if the follow ram is suitable for use on an AM3 board:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-183-OC

The ram states intel optimised but am I right in thinking that is just a way of saying "it's low voltage"? I know these types of ram also have some kind of memory profiles as well so may need to be manually configured on an AMD system.

Lastly, this ram is pretty cheap and I've seen value kits in other places nearing the same price range, is DDR3 currently falling in price, are we gonna see the £35 - £40 for 4gb like we did with DD2?

Hhmmm, seems I should have searched quickly before posting this one. Asked and answered many times with regards to "Intel" ram working on AMD boards, it works perfectly fine as long as you configure it correctly.

Whilst all the 'opitmised for intel/AMD' is pretty close to just being PR BS, ocz gold ddr3 has a bit of a reputation for breaking/turning up dead. I think it was due to bad yields and poor Quality control (there are plenty of threads here and on OCZ forums), but i also think they have now overcome these issues. Be wary though, as there is probably still old stock floating around.

on the other hand, they are going for a pretty sweet price. I would say try them, and if they're faulty, then send em back instead of RMA, and get a different kit.

i also have some ocz platinums running fine here as well (are yours the gold or the reapers fretted?).

im simply going with what ive been reading. Just because one set works dont mean they all work and vice versa. All im saying is tread carefully.

I have some OCZ gold in with my Phenom II - although the first pack was DoA, and the working pair never have been able to do their promised speed/voltage/timings.

Overall I much prefer my G.Skill Ripjaws, which did not need RMAing and actually can run what they say on the box.

That said, the offer on OCZ this week is very tempting... just be prepared to send back the first set :P

My ram is the gold variety.. no problems with running it on full speed (had to adjust settings in BIOS).
