Hi

I have just purchased 4Gb OCZ Gold Edition 8500 to replace my 4Gb Geil Black Dragon 6400, which I have donated to a friend.

As my system seemed to be hanging more than the it did under the Geil memory I ran System Information for Windows (SIW) and it says that the memory is still 6400, (DDR2 800), but the part numbers match with the OCZ website for the 8500.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Mike

As above you will need to set ther timings manually in the BIOS. Its also possible you may need to up the voltage as well :)

I have gone in the Bios and tried to increase the frequency up tp 1066Hz from 800 and am unable to change this.

I can change the timings to 5-6-6-18 or am I best to change the memory back?+

Thanks

Mike

Not sure u'll get any benefit from 1066MHz memory. I made the same move as u as I wanted to get my CPU faster than I could on PC6400 RAM but u'll need to get that E5200 much faster if u want to challenge the PC8500 ;)

What does the BIOS show - i.e. is there an option to change frequency or is it greyed out?

Max in bios is 800, can't select 1066, seems to be running okay and not really an issue, it was more of an opportunity to a free upgrade from 800Mhz.

Thanks

If your motherboard doesn't have a higher memory divider then you would have to overclock! A quick go on the calculator and I come up with: A bus speed of 266mhz. CPU at 3.2GHZ and RAM at 1066mhz

IMO it should say that these cards often don't pick up the correct timings when sold. I had this problem with my OCZ Gold product, aswel as having to RMA it twice.
I wrote a descriptive review on the OCZ Gold 6GB that I bought, saying that Overclockers were fast to deliver and helpful, but that the product had to be RMA'd twice.
My review never got put up, leaving the kit at 5*... which it's not.
Very deceiving IMO... shocking.

I have got mine finally to work stable after a long long time testing and sending it back and forth to OCZ. The RAM is good now, I personally wouldn't know a whole lot about RAM but my PC works and gets a high windows score... and is fast, so it can't be all that bad. I also wrote this in my review so, why would it not be put up?

I hope other people looking at OCZ Gold see this, and really hope nobody moderates this post as that would be extremely dishonest too.
