OCZ memory, have I just been unlucky?

I got some OCZ memory for a new build last month (2 x 2GB, 0CZ30B1600LV4GK) - after having some stability issue, I tested ONE stick at a time (First slot only) using memtest+ off a bootable CD. One ran with no issues at all (even at 1.5v MB default sticks are rated at 1.65v) the other one constantly gave errors. I bumped the voltage up to 1.65v and still the 2nd stick gave me errors :( This memory was RMA'd on Monday and replacement memory sent out today.

Rather than just insert and run, I decided to test this memory before hand as well... agian I've got one good stick and one bad stick! I've been over to the OCZ forums, and found a couple of tweeks but still I'm getting errors on one stick.

So have I been unlucky, and should I go for another RMA, or ask to replace with different memory (gSkill was my first choice but not in stock at the time, although I've never had an issue with crucial memory either, just gSkill was cheaper!).

The MB is Gigabyte 790XTA-ud4 running Phenom X4 955BE, chips are set at 9-9-9-24 with a voltages at 1.65v I also tried increasing CPU NB VID Control to 1.35 volts, as mentioned in several places on the OCZ forums.

Thoughts welcome.

Seems the Obsidian stuff from OCZ is to be avoided at all costs ;)

check out the newegg reviews, there are many, many 1 and 2 star reviews. personally I'd be happier with some cheap Crucial value ram than the Obsidian stuff...

overall, it seems OCZ's quality control for their *cheapest* parts is lacking. or non-existant :p

I have ocz obsidian and it seems fine. Running with no errors on memtest86+ at 1600 and at around 1.55v.

I think you have been unlucky.

I have a pack of OCZ Gold next to me, and am now awaiting an RMA number. One stick was DOA, prevents the machine from posting, no beep codes, nada. Other stick was fine, booted, beep codes, BIOS screens. What a waste of my morning, and now I have to put my old kit right back into my case again! :(

"Hand tested" my proverbial.

I had exactly the same problem before Christmas with the OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Low-Voltage

I had one stick giving errors the other stick was fine. So, I RMA'd them and received new sticks. Tested and found 1 stick was giving errors.

In the end I talked to OCuk and asked for an RMA & refund and bought a different brand (Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 10666C9 1333MHz TwinX Dual) which worked 100%

So as far as I'm concerned both sets of OCZ Gold had a dodgy stick - OcUK replaced them after testing so they must have been faulty.

If I was you, I'd RMA that set and try and buy something else

I had a very similar problem - not the same motherboard but as an example the OCZ OCZ3P1600LVAM4GK & Gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P which I own undervolts the ram by 0.03v

People on xtreme forums have been running the ram at 1.70v (1.67v true value) it does get quite warm when running prime95 but other than that it works fine.

Just a case of bad luck, ive had memory from several manufacturers fail on me. Corsair, crucial to name but a few.

I didn't read the first post properly it looks definitly like one stick is faulty so RMA, I agree.

Pretty sure it's different, as stick -1 was faulty the first time, and this time it's stick -2 (Or the other way around, lol). I'd already checked that :) should have written the serial number down!
